At the beginning of the month AMD presented its new range of processors for the AM3 socket: FX8320E, FX8370, FX8370E and FX9590 with 8 cores, readjusting price, consumption levels and expanding the range of possibilities for the AM3 + socket. This time we have had in hand one of the low-power processors, it is the 8-core FX8320E, 3.3Ghz base and 4.3Ghz turbo, 95W TDP and an approximate price of ~ € 200.

We appreciate the trust placed by AMD with the transfer of the graphics and the processor for analysis. We also thank ASUS for lending us the 990FX Sabertooth motherboard for all testing.

AMD's main idea is to fight for the mid / high-end market, that is, to compete against Intel's blocked i3 and i5 series. Thus leaving the enthusiastic series a little more aside, and staying on the lifelong socket platform AM3 +.

As we can see on the AMD roadmap in these two years, it has focused exclusively on the “APU” range, reaching an outstanding level with high capacities, but this time they want to give it one more turn with the arrival of four new 32nm FX processors.

This architecture the most powerful chipset is the 990FX that offers us the possibility of mounting Dual Channel memory at 1866 mmhz, PCI Express 2.0 connection with the possibility of CrossFireX, USB 3.0 connections, SATA 6.0 Gb / s connections and Gigabit network.

Technically it is identical to other previous FX models, it changes a bit the part of the pins that includes different GND points.

Base includes a 3300 MHz frequency rate and a Turbo frequency of up to 4300 MHz without overclocking. It is compatible with all chipsets (AM3 +) and the ideal for testing is the 990FX. It also includes a reduced TDP to 95W when in previous models it is 125W.

Final words and conclusion.

As we have seen in this review we have not seen many surprises about what we already knew about this architecture. Where it has improved the most is in the consumption (95W) and in the frequencies (4300 mhz with turbo) of series, finding reliability and a more balanced system. Also remember that this processor has the multiplier unlocked and allows us to raise the nuts a little.

In our tests we see that the benchmark has given a great result, such as in 3DMark FireStrike: PTS. In games it has also given rise, since we have equipped it with a fantastic AMD Radeon R9 280X from 3GB EFI with results in Tomb Raider by FPS and Metro Last Light by FPS. That if we compare it with an i5-4330 there is a difference of 250cb in CineBench R15.

WE RECOMMEND AMD's 'Zen' processors to be delayed to 2017

Regarding overclocking, we can perfectly reach 4700 or 4800 Mhz with a good 990FX motherboard, but the minimum improvement I think is not worth it, since it increases consumption and loses the logic of this processor.

As we have said, I think AMD has done a great job lowering consumption and improving frequencies. Its price in online stores is somewhat high currently: € 215 if it drops to € 180 it will be a great quality / price option.
