The most important component of our computer is without a doubt the power supply. It is curious that it is the most marginalized component in 90% of the configurations, its main function is to offer power and stability to our system.

But as we advanced three weeks ago, Antec on its 25th anniversary has launched its new models for the “Basiq Series” series: VP350P, VP450P and VP550P. We will bring the 550W VP550P to our laboratory.

The Antec VP550P source mounts a silent 120mm fan, specifically the Yacht Loon D12SH-12 with a speed of 2200 RPM under load and an air flow of 88 CFM. Its core is manufactured by Delta Electronics with an efficiency of 82%. As always Antec offers us maximum security, by incorporating Active PFC, protection against excess current (OCP), protection against excess voltage (OVP), protection against short circuits (SCP), protection against overvoltage (OPP and Over-temperature protection (OTP) and a 100, 000-hour lifespan.

As we are used to, Antec maintains its style in its packaging. Very thick boxes and corporate black / yellow colors of the company.

The power supply is perfectly protected with cardboard:

The box includes:

  • Antec VP550P power supply. 4 screws. Power cable and cable ties. Manual.

The power supply is painted in a very elegant matte black and finished with high-end power supply:

“Antec” is printed on the side.

Back of the power supply. As always comes with an I / O switch:

The only wire meshed is the 24-pin ATX connector. The other cables lack sleeving:

To check at what level our power supply works, we are going to check the stability of its voltages with the very powerful 3.4GHZ Intel 2600k and an ATI HD 5770 graphics card.

As we can see the values in CPU and GPU load are excellent. Its fan in IDLE is very quiet and on load it becomes somewhat noisy, when turning at 2200RPM. We have verified that the equipment in Idle consumes about 110-120w and in load reaches up to 320W.

WE RECOMMEND YOU Sharkoon announces the WPM Gold ZERO semi-modular power supply

The aesthetics of the Antec VP550P does not go unnoticed thanks to its matte black finishes. The 120mm fan is a Loon D12SH-12 Yacht that reaches a speed of 2200 RPM at full load, but idle has surprised us with its efficient silence. Its core is manufactured by Delta Electronics and has two dual + 12V 30A outputs that provide security for our components.

In our laboratories, the two rails of + 12v, + 3.3v and + 5v have kept the components stable. But in full load the fan has rotated at a higher speed causing a somewhat annoying noise. But we have to remember that we have worked with a "High-End" system: Intel 2600k, Ati HD5770 and the Antec VP550P has been able to hold it.

We are forced to emphasize that this power supply is Antec's lowest series (“Series Basiq”) but with the efficiency of a Bronze Certified source.

If you are looking for a power supply to play with the most current cards on the market, this is not your power supply. But if you are looking for a silent team and want to accompany it with an integrated or undemanding graphics card (Nvidia GTS250 or ATI HD5770) it will be the perfect companion for your team with an incredible price of € 69.
