What is the reason for this improvement?

It is because the SATA Express has an ecosystem in the purest PCI Express style. Since it uses two lanes or lines of the PCH PCI Express. But… what does this mean? It means that on the current platform we cannot get 100% performance. We were in a 30% environment, that is, an improvement of about 60% to SATA III. The SATA Express connection was first standardized in 2011 and even this new Z97 series has not been officially implemented on motherboards.
