The Swedish company Fractal Design has revolutionized the concept of SilentPC boxes. From Professional Review we have taken our jewel in the crown to our laboratory. The "Fractal Design Define XL" is a very large tower with the capacity to accommodate up to 10 hard drives.

We can find it in two colors: black or titanium. It is a box with dimensions 23.2 x 56 x 56.13 cm and a weight of 17.95 kg. Its design is ideal for silence enthusiasts: anti-vibration panels, 10-disc capacity, low RPM fans and excellent aesthetics.

The Fractal Design Define XL comes protected in a gigantic cardboard box. Corporate colors predominate: black, white and blue. In the front comes the presentation of the product and in the back its characteristics.

As soon as we open the box, we see the manual and perfect protection.

At the top we have the control panel. Includes audio input / sound, eSATA, power button and 4 USB 2.0.

Both sides are normal. The left side has a small outlet for a 120 cm fan.

It incorporates a window that is equipped with a soundproof iron.

We appreciate that the 5.25 ″ trims bring a quick mount system.

At the bottom we have a "hatch" that covers the filters of the two front fans.

Only includes a 140mm fan.

High quality legs.

In the back of the box includes a 140mm v entiler. Although it is compatible for 120 mm fans.

The slots are painted white and incorporates two tube outlets for liquid cooling.

The hollow of the power supply is removable. It is covered in foam and a washable filter.

The doors are very robust. As we can see in the image, it incorporates foam that cushions the sound.

In this hole we can install a 120mm fan.

Once opened, the box is divided into two zones. The extras that it incorporates are: 20 cm ceiling fan, three cabins for hard drives, cable management and panels to muffle the sound.

The upper cabin is removable. This allows us to install a large graphic.

The two lower hard drive cabs. It allows us to install up to 6 discs.

Without removing the upper hard drive cabinet, we can install graphics cards up to 34 cm. Once removed we gain more than 10 cm.

This cover allows us to install any heatsink without removing our motherboard from the box. A great detail for the most junkyards !!

The Fractal XL Define has an incredible design. Its structure reminds us of the Fractal Design R3. Like its indica name, "XL, " it is much larger. Thanks to its large size it supports E-ATX boards (Ideal for the new 2011 Intel socket).

Do we have eight hard drives at home?

Don't worry, you can install up to 10 hard drives !! (Fully compatible with 2.5 ″ / SSD drives)

Silence lovers are in luck because we have the perfect box for the SilentPC 24/7. The sides, roof and back have soundproof sheets.

The fans include washable filters and we have found that they have no noise on their pads at low revs.

After installing our test bench (2600k, passive graphics card and Arctic Cooling PRO CO heatsink), we can assure that it looked like a grave. During the assembly of the components we did not have any problems and thanks to the cable management everything looks very organized.

Although we have missed the integration of a USB 3.0 port, we can get our upgrade kit. The recommended price of the Fractal Design Define Xl is € 125.
