Review: gigabyte gtx 660 ti oc 3gb

Anonim

Just over a week ago, Gigabyte announced its new GTX6x0 series graphics card series with extra memory. Specifically, the GTX 670 models (GV-N670OC-4GD) with 4 GB of GDDR5 and the model that we have brought to our laboratory: Nvidia GTX 660 Ti (GV-N66TOC-3GD), which increases its memory to a significant 3GB and a 1032 frequency. / 1111 mhz (Stock / GPU Boost).

Like the Gigabyte GTX670 it maintains the same box format. We see that its first specifications: WindForce heatsink, 1032mhz with Turbo, 3072MB of memory…

The bundle includes:

  • Gigabyte GTX 660 Ti OC 3GB.2 graphics card. Extra power connectors. 1 CD with drivers and software.

The card includes the best heatsink ever developed by Gigabyte. This is the WindForce X3 heatsink that includes up to three extremely silent 8 cm fans.

Next to the PCI connection we find the reference model. We see that it is a REV1.0 this means that it is an identical revision to the commercial one.

One of the first differences that we find with the 2GB version is its ATX version board. The old revision has a cut-out plate as the reference one.

The card is compatible like all its GTX660 Ti sisters with up to 3 cards simultaneously (3 Way-SLI).

It incorporates two connectors: one with 6 pins and the other with 8 pins. This means that you will need up to 450w of power consumption. By integrating the second 8-pin connector, lacking in the first revision, we consider it a great improvement in this new revision.

It includes two DVI outputs, one HDMI output and one DisplayPort. Enough to mount any solution on the market.

The heatsink fans are self-regulating from the graphics card itself (PWM). This is very interesting, because they are silent and alone fans and they revolutionize when they see it necessary.

The GK104 core works on a 192-bit BUS up to 1032 MHz and reaches 1, 111 mhz with Boost Enabled.

Like the GTX670, Gigabyte has chosen the prestigious Samsung 4G20325FD-FC03 memories that run up to 1500 MHz - 6000 MHz GDDR5.

The power phases are protected by a heatsink. Since we wanted to see it a little more closely, we have removed the heatsink.

Gigabyte is using a voltage controller to achieve the best stability and without electrical noise.

Here we have it punctured in one of our test bench.

To evaluate the performance of the graphics card we have used the following applications:

  • 3DMark11.3DMark Vantage.The Planet 2.Resident Evil 5.Heaven benchmark 2.1

All our tests have been carried out with a resolution of 1920px x 1080px.

What are we looking for in the tests?

First the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS, the more fluid the game will be. To slightly differentiate the quality, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS:

FRAMES BY SECONDS

Frames for Seconds. (FPS)

Gameplay

Less than 30 FPS Limited
30 - 40 FPS Playable
40 - 60 FPS Good
Greater than 60 FPS Fairly Good or Excellent

Let's not fool ourselves; there are games that can have an average of 100 FPS. It may be because the game is quite old, does not require excessive Graphics resources or that the graphics is the most powerful on the market, or we have GPU systems for thousands of euros. But the reality is different, and games like Crysis 2 and Metro 2033 are very demanding and do not usually give high scores.

The ASUS GTX660 Ti DirectCU II TOP comes standard overclocked with 1033 Mhz on GPU CLOCK / 1502 Mhz Memory. This will offer us 5% more performance than other graphics cards on the market.

Now we want to give it one more turn and we have stabilized it at: + 67mhz GPU BLOCK OFFSET (1100mhz base and 1178 boost) / +46 MHZ in Memory (1525) and the maximum with 110% Power Target. The result has been fantastic that we classify it as outstanding: P8889 PTS. The processor we used was an Intel i7 3570k at 4500 mhz with a Gigabyte Z77X-UP7.

To overclock, monitor and carry out an exhaustive control of our card we can use the Gigabyte Guru software:

In the temperature / consumption section we have been pleasantly surprised with its consumption in stock-idle.

The Gigabyte GTX660 Ti (GV-N66TOC-3GD) is a graphics card with an ATX-format PCB, identical to the GTX670 OC, with 3 GB of GDDR5 memory, WindForce heatsink and frequencies of 1032/1111 mhz (Stock / GPU Boost).

In our test bench we have used a high-end equipment Gigabyte Z77X-UP7, an i5 3570K processor at 4500 mhz and 8GB DDR3 at 2400mhz. We have obtained a very high score in synthetic programs: 3dMARK11 P8541 and Heaven DX11 2554 pts. While playing we have also tested games like Battlefield 3 bordering on 58 FPS. All a pass.

We wanted to do a little OC on the graph and we have easily raised it to 1100 mhz of Clock Base, 1525 mhz of memory and its maximum in TDP 110%. The result has been magnificent with the 3DMARK11 from P8889 PTS.

We have also measured temperature and electricity consumption. In both cases we have had a great response thanks to the WindForce heatsink with three fans: 27º in idle, 60º in full. Meanwhile, the electrical consumption has been 89W at rest and 297W at the top.

In short, we are facing a high-end card with an ATX PCB, 3GB Memory and very good cooling. Today it is one of the best graphics cards in quality / price: € 320 approx. Now available in online stores.
