Review: gigabyte z77x
Gigabyte offers us a wide variety of computer products / components. Today we bring you a review of the Gigabyte Z77X-D3H. A board with great overclocking capacity and MULTIGPU configuration with PCIE 3.0.
Product ceded by:
These new boards are characterized by having the new Intel Z77 chipset. They are compatible with all "Sandy Bridge" Core I3, Core i5 and Core i7 and all "Ivy Bridge". The new chipset offers few features that differ from the Z68 Chipset, such as;
- Ivy Bridge LGA1155 processors. Native USB 3.0 ports (4). OC capacity. Maximum 4 DIMM modules DDR3. PCI Express 3.0. Digital phases. Intel RST technology. Intel Smart Response Technology (Z77 & H77). Dual UEFI BIOS. (Depends on model and manufacturer) Wi-Fi + Bluetooth (Depends on model and manufacturer).
Here is a table to see the differences between the current chipsets of socket 1155:
In fact we must remind our readers that 90% of P67 and Z68 boards are "Ivy Bridge" compatible with a BIOS update.
We also don't want to bore you with a lot of information, but we find it necessary to highlight the new advantages of the Ivy Bridge processor:
- New manufacturing system at 22 nm. Increasing the Overclock capacity and decreasing the temperature. New random number generator that was left outside of "Sandy Bridge". Increases the maximum multiplier from 57 to 63. Increases the memory bandwidth from 2133 to 2800mhz (In step of 200 mhz).Your GPU includes DX11 instructions increasing ~ 55% performance.

Moisture can wreak havoc on the motherboard circuitry. GIGABYTE's new PCB Glass Fabric design helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, reducing the space between the tracks on the printed circuit board.
GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 4 Classic boards incorporate High-resistance integrated circuits that help protect the motherboard from electrostatic discharge.
Permanent damage caused by surges or power outages during BIOS updates can be prevented by GIGABYTE DualBIOS, which automatically activates a secondary backup BIOS. GIGABYTE also makes use of Anti-Surge ICs to protect the motherboard from surges.
GIGABYTE uses All Solid Caps (capacitors) and MOSFETs Low RDS (on) suitable to work at high temperatures, increasing the life of the components up to 50, 000 * hours.
GIGABYTE's revolutionary 3D BIOS application is based on our
UEFI DualBIOS ™ technology, available to our customers in two unique interaction modes, providing a unique variety of powerful graphical interfaces suitable for even our most demanding users.
UEFI DualBIOS ™ Technology
At the core of the 3D BIOS technology are physically a couple of ROMs containing the UEFI BIOS system, designed internally and exclusively by GIGABYTE. UEFI DualBIOS ™ makes BIOS setup attractive and new to beginners and experienced users alike, with a graphical interface capable of displaying 32-bit color images as well as offering smooth mouse navigation. UEFI BIOS also offers native support for large hard drives on 64-bit operating systems.
3D mode
Designed to provide a harmonized and friendly environment for managing the BIOS, GIGABYTE's exclusive 3D mode offers a fully interactive graphical interface that allows users to adjust the parameters of their UEFI BIOS for best performance in a simple and intuitive way. 3D mode also allows the novice or occasional user to better understand which areas of the motherboard are being affected by changes in its configuration, making them much better understand how everything works.
Advanced mode
Advanced Mode provides a more complete environment for configuring BIOS that is specifically designed for overclockers and highly advanced users who want to have as much control as possible over their PC hardware. It includes the GIGABYTE MIT seal tuning technology along with all the configurable parameters of the new GIGABYTE 3D Power engine. In short, advanced mode combines GIGABYTE's accumulated and customary BIOS experience with a revamped and streamlined graphical interface.
The GIGABYTE 7 series motherboards take advantage of the latest connectivity and expansion bus technologies available on the Intel platform. The third generation of Intel ® Core ™ processors debuts the new PCI Express gen expansion bus. 3.0, allowing users to take advantage of the new generation of solutions for high-bandwidth external graphics cards.
* PCIE Gen.3 requires CPU and expansion cards to be compatible.
Gigabyte presents the motherboard in a white box and with the most important specifications screen printed.
The package comes perfectly packed and approved for pumps.
The box includes:
- Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H motherboard Installation manuals and disc SATA 6.0 cables MultiGPU bridge Backplate
The board has its PCB painted in black and uses blue heatsinks. Aesthetically we like it very much.
It has a pretty good layout for multiGPU configuration. In the first PCI 1x we can install a sound card. In addition to mounting on the PCIE ports (2nd, 4th and 6th) a TRI SLI configuration. Note that they are PCI Express 3.0 connections.
Does the board include a msata connection to install a small bootable SSD?
The board incorporates 4 DDR3 sockets with 32GB capacity. Compatible speeds are: 2400 (OC) / 1600/1333/1066 MHz
The south bridge includes a blue sink. Enough to dissipate the mild temperatures of the Z77.
Although the phases only include a single heatsink. This deprives us of performing a strong Overclock. We expected a more interesting solution from Gigabyte.
We have up to 8 SATA ports, very good solution for storage / SSD drives. In total 4 SATA 3.0 and 4 SATA 6.0.
Among its novelties we find the 6 USB 3.0 ports. native, DVI, D-SUB and HDMI connectors. And a VIA sound card.

To check the stability of the processor and motherboard. We have made a 4600mhz OC with Prime 95 Custom and a GTX580 at 780mhz. The performance has been quite satisfactory in 3d Mark Vantage. We have also performed the following tests:
- 3dMark Vantage: 25178 PTS TOTAL. 3dMark11: P5650 PTS. Heaven Unigine 2.1.:42.0 FPS and 1057 PTS. CineBench: 62.42 AND CPU: 8.25
Gigabyte has designed a remarkable motherboard with Z77 chipset, PCI Express 3.0, SATA 6.0, USB 3.0 and digital outputs.
The layout of the PCI Express ports allows us to mount up to a TRI SLI / CrossFireX with PCI 3.0 support. A new and improved bandwidth. One of the great advantages of this distribution of PCI ports is that it does not allow the installation of a sound card in the first PCI 1X port.
In our test bench we have tested an Intel 2600k with an overclock of 4600mhz at 1.36V and a GTX580 graphics. The results have been very good with synthetic tests and playing Battelfield 3. The overclock has been stable as a rock but with some VDROOP (expected with the mid-range).
Although I would have liked the plate to have a better dissipation in its phases. For my taste it is insufficient for a 24 × 7 overclock and going from 4200 / 4400mhz.
We affirm that the Gigabyte Z77X-D3H is a board with excellent performance and quality / price. It is ideal for users who are looking for a gaming solution, server or office equipment for many years.
