The TS-269L supports SMB / CIFS, NFS, and AFP protocols for file sharing over Windows, Mac, and Linux / UNIX networks. You can create user accounts and shared folders through the user-friendly web-based interface without the need for IT knowledge. The integrated antivirus solution for the Turbo NAS guarantees businesses continuity by offering detection against the latest viruses, malware, worms and Trojan horses.

Windows Active Directory (AD) and LDAP Directory services

The Windows AD and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory services allow the system administrator to retrieve user accounts from Windows AD or Linux LDAP servers to the TS-269L, reducing the time and effort for account configuration. Users can use the same information to log in (username and password) to access the TS-269L.

Add shared folders

It can be conveniently connected to shared folders on other Microsoft Networking servers through the TS-269L's "portal folder". This avoids the hassle of logging into different servers one by one.

Archive and share ISO files

The TS-269L supports installing ISO images of CDs and DVDs as network shared folders for archiving, storing and sharing data. This feature saves space for storage on physical disks, reduces the risk of data loss caused by prolonged use of disks, and improves performance when sharing data on an enterprise network.

Windows ACL

Full Windows ACL support enables advanced configuration of shared folder permissions, thereby simplifying IT management for businesses with large numbers of users. By enabling Windows ACL support, basic permissions and advanced 13 permissions can be configured from Windows File Explorer and synchronize Turbo NAS shared folder permission settings. Also, the same permissions apply for AFP, FTP, Web File Manager, and Samba, when advanced folder permissions are enabled at the same time.

Advanced folder permissions

Advanced folder permissions allow users to configure access to folders / subfolders of the TS-269L. When this feature is enabled, users can manage folder permissions from Microsoft Windows or from the TS-269L's web-based management interface, without using complicated procedures.

Secure measures for data access and storage

  • Policy-based Unauthorized IP Blocking

The administrator can automatically allow, deny or block specific IP addresses or network domains, which try to connect to the TS-269L through SSH, Telnet, HTTP (S), FTP, Samba or AFP. Remote login

The TS-269L supports remote login via SSH (secure protection) or Telnet connection. SSL security (HTTPS)

The TS-269L supports HTTPS connections. The administrator can upload a secure certificate and RSA private key in the X.509PEM format issued by a trusted provider, to allow access to the TS-269L through SSL secure login. Secure FTP

The TS-269L offers secure data transfer with SSL / TLS encryption (explicit). Passive FTP port range settings are also supported. Remote replication encrypted by Rsync

Data can be safely backed up from the TS-269L to or from another QNAP Turbo NAS or Rsync server over the network. Shared Folder Management

The administrator can select, hide or show the TS-269L network shared folders on the Windows network. User authority managementt

The administrator can create the user ID and password and define the authority and quota for each of them. Exporting and importing the user list is also supported.

Business Support Center

Complete backup solutions

The TS-269L provides IT administrators with flexible server backup solutions, including encrypted remote replication, real-time remote replication (RTRR), and cloud-based storage backup. Windows and Mac users can use the QNAP NetBak Replicator and Time Machine utility respectively to back up the data on the TS-269L. Additionally, the TS-269L is compatible with third party backup software such as Veeam® Backup & Replication and Acronis® True Image.

Disaster recovery solution

The TS-269L offers users peace of mind, business continuity and high data availability by providing the ability to recover their data from disasters.

Real-time remote replication

Remote Real-Time Replication (RTRR) is a function to provide scheduled or real-time data replication between the TS-269L and a remote QNAP NAS, an FTP server, or an external drive.

ISCSI LUN Backup and Restore

The Turbo NAS has taken iSCSI LUN backups / restores to a whole new level with snapshot technology. The IT administrator can use the LUN snapshot to back up the LUN content to various storage destinations, including Windows shared folders via SMB / CIFS, Linux shared folders via NFS, or just folders shared locations on the Turbo NAS.

Cloud backups

Get ready to send private information to the clouds! The TS-269L supports cloud storage backups with Amazon S3, ElephantDrive, and Symform, which offer various backup modes, including scheduled and real-time backups, as well as version control, such so that data can be restored from any point and at any time. With ElephantDrive, cloud storage can be monitored through a web browser. Any additional stored data sets will always be available, therefore remote data recovery is simple and fast.

Backup to external drives via USB3.0

The IT administrator can connect external storage devices to the QNAP TS-269L, through the eSATA or USB ports and back up the data in the NAS shared folders to external drives. Three backup modes are supplied: instant, scheduled, and automatic.

The TS-269L comes with USB 3.0 ports for high-speed backup to external hard drives. EXT3, EXT4, NTFS and HFS + file systems are supported to ensure compatibility with Windows, Mac® OS X and Linux operating systems.

Designed for virtualized and clustered environments

Compared to the high cost of Fiber Channel SAN, the TS-269L is an affordable system that can be deployed as a storage hub for clustered and virtualized server environments such as VMware and the Microsoft Windows Failover Group.

Supports persistent reservation SPC-3

The integrated iSCSI service supports enterprise-grade features such as SPC-3 persistent reservation for clusters in VMware and Windows Server 2008. Administrator can configure the Microsoft fault pooling environment, use the group shared volume for Hyper-V, and run the live migration of the virtual machine between Hyper-V hosts.

Supports advanced MPIO and MC / S

Because the Turbo NAS is compatible with MPIO (Multiple Route I / O) and MC / S (Multiple Connections Per Session), users can connect to TS-269L iSCSI targets using two or more network interfaces from your servers with failover and load balancing. Furthermore, with MC / S configuration, better performance in data transmission can be obtained.

WE RECOMMEND YOU Protect your NAS QNAP server from the new eCh0raix ransomware

QNap presents the TS-269L in minimalist but safe packaging. Below the NAS image, all certifications and compatibilities appear.

Premium packaging and protections.

The bundle includes:

  • 90W power supply and European cable. 2 RED RJ45 cables. Installation CD. Instruction manual and quick guides in various languages.

The QNAP TS-269L exudes quality for all its design. As we see in the following images, the left side has small holes for excellent cooling. The right side is completely smooth.

The team is focused for a small / medium business or home server. Therefore, it only brings us 2 bays for two 2.5 / 3.5 ″ hard drives (compatible with HDDs of up to 4 TB). On its front we have a USB 2.0 port, two buttons: on and a backup fast (fast backup). In addition, the LEDs for hard drives, network and E-Sata.

Here is a small example of two installed hard drives. Specifically, we have used two Seagate hard drives.

The back we see a 7 cm fan, e-sata connection, HDMi connection, 2 USB 3.0 and 2 usb 2.0.

Example of the trays removed and installing our hard drives.

We start by inserting the CD that includes the bundle in the reading unit and the following menu appears. To detect the unit we will choose the option "install the QNAP search engine".

We press to search and it detects the IP of our NAS.

We have two types of configurations: fast or manual. We have used both and they are just as intuitive. Initially, we must have a slight knowledge of networks to understand the installation.

We enter our IP in our web browser and the default username / password is admin / admin.

Here we have the control panel of our homemade QNAP server. What brings us?

We have applications for photography, listening to music, watching multimedia files / movies, downloading all kinds of torrent files / direct downloading and a file manager to move easily through the directory tree.

Although the most interesting part is in the administration of the NAS. That we can configure printers, NFS, FTp, SSH services, mail configuration, web hosting with apache and install very interesting plugins and widgets. This is the firmware version 3.8. In the next article we will explain how the new version 4.0 works.

We currently have many NAS manufacturers in the market. But few offer the quality and price of QNAP servers for the small / medium business or home server sector.

We have before us the QNAP TS-269L server with Intel Atom 1.86 dual-core processor, 1GB DDR3 (expandable up to 3GB) Sodimm, with double rack for 2 2.5 / 3.5 "hard drives / ssd, with two gigabit network cards, USB 3.0 and e-SATA connections. A great machine.

The NAS includes a CD with all the utilities for its installation and management. It took 15 minutes to get the TS-269L ready. Its control panel is very useful and brings us several super useful applications to view multimedia files, listen to music or download files online. Also, it allows us through plugins to watch television or mount virtual machines with VMware.

Regarding its consumption, it strictly complies with what it specifies in its specifications. In idle it barely reaches 8W and at maximum performance 16w. Its temperatures are very good and it allows your 70mm fan to be very quiet.

In short, if you are looking for a Server that offers us security, a first-class control panel and power for a small company or home server, the QNAP TS-269L is the market reference. Its price ranges from € 439, although it seems somewhat high, it deserves it.
