The Steelseries 9HD is a hard-type (plastic) mat with a classic size. Steelseries assures us performance, precision and speed in our movements.

In the professional and gaming world we can find four types of mats:

  • Soft: Made of cloth or plastic. Its texture is pleasant and smooth. During the game it will offer us comfort and quick movements. Another advantage is their easy transport when rolling them up. Although its roughness will affect the surfers of our mouse (wear). Hard: Or also rigid calls. Because they are characterized by having a smooth surface, which will improve our precision and speed. It is manufactured with hard materials: aluminum or plastic. The surfers of our mouse will suffer less wear. Depending on the mat, condensation (drops) may form due to the temperature of our hand (hot) and that of the mat (cold). Hybrids: They are made of hard and soft materials. This design is intended to offer the precision of hard mats and the comfort of soft mats. Commercial: They are the ones that give away at meetings in our neighborhood or with cereals. As a general rule they are very thin and uncomfortable. Nothing recommended for gaming use.

The mat is protected by cardboard and a plastic blister. At the front comes the presentation of the product. And on the back all the features of the mat in 10 languages.

Once we open the blister. The mat comes with a cloth for proper cleaning.

It is common on Steelseries mats to find their logo engraved in the lower left corner.

The mat has a standard size of 270 x 320 mm and is made of rigid plastic. Its surface is embossed with its mosaic logo.

Thanks to its characteristic rubber base, its adherence is perfect on any surface.

The Steelseries features an uneven cut at the bottom. It is 2mm thick.

Steelseries 9HD and Ikari optical together.

The mat has left us a great taste in the mouth. We were used to using the Steelseries SK white / soft mat and switching to the rigid Steelseries 9HD was a matter of minutes.

For testing the 9HD we have used the Steelseries Ikaria laser and the Nexus SM-9000. During our tests we have played Call Of Duty Black OPS, World Of Warcraft, Starcraft II and Left 4 Dead 1 & 2. And it has offered us a smooth and perfect displacement. Gaining greater precision in photo retouching software.

We have noticed a slight temperature rise in our hand. Although at no time have we witnessed condensation or drops on the mat. We would have liked the mat to have a larger size, as shown in our previous Steelseries SK.

In short, the Steelseries 9HD is one of the best rigid mats on the market. We can find it in the best online gaming stores for around € 32.
