It seems that very soon we will be able to enjoy the first games compatible with Microsoft's new low-level graphical API DirectX 12 after having discovered that Rise of the Tomb Raider will almost certainly have DX12.

Remember that DirectX 12 comes to succeed an outdated DirectX 11 that has been around for many years and is not designed to take full advantage of the benefits of the latest hardware. DX 12 will improve the performance of video games by making better use of the resources of our system thus avoiding an overload, with DX 12 we will be able to take full advantage of the processors of up to 12 cores, thus avoiding that it is only one or two of the cores. that carry most of the workload as it currently does with DX 11 and that ends up reducing performance.

Graphics cards will also benefit from a more efficient use of their resources and we will be able to enjoy new graphics and rendering effects that are not currently possible under DirectX 11.

Rise of the Tomb Raider will have DX12 through an update

Rise of the Tomb Raider will have DX12 with a future update, making it one of the first games to use the new Microsoft API if it is not the first to do so. For now there is no official statement from Crystal Dynamics but a file called “DX12.dll” has been found in the installation directory of the game and, in addition, the game already offers the option of selecting DirectX 12 in the options of its launcher. All this indicates that Rise of the Tomb Raider will have DX12 in the near future that far.

We remind you that DX 12 only works with the Windows 10 operating system and that it also needs a compatible graphics card to function, among the compatible cards we currently find the Nvidia GeForce based on the Kepler and Maxwell architectures (Fermi is also supposed to be compatible but this compatibility has not yet arrived via drivers) and AMD cards based on the Graphics Core Next architecture. If you do not meet these two requirements you can already say goodbye to DirectX 12 unless you update your system.
