They steal over 30 million dollars in tether

The cryptocurrency market has somehow gotten used to thefts. It has happened on several occasions with Ethereum and now Tether is the new victim. On November 19, an unknown address has stolen more than $ 30 million in tethers. For those who don't know it, it's the fiat-backed cryptocurrency.

After this robbery, Tether has been forced to publish a statement on its website in which it has reported a fork in its code that was freezing the funds of the address 16tg2RJuEPtZooy18Wxn2me2RhUdC94N7r. This address presents only three transactions in total.

I steal 30 million in Tether

This theft has caused a great stir and concern about the existing security of this cryptocurrency. Since the developers team is in charge of providing a secure code and a way to recover said funds in the event of a hack. Also, that a group of developers manages to fork the code at their will, shows that there is some serious flaw.

Although, there are voices that claim that the Tethers broadcast is a fraud. Tethers are issued backed by fiat money to maintain their fixed value. In addition, the official Tether page has a transparency section. It shows the balance between physical reserves and the number of critical coins in circulation. When the robbery occurred, a negative balance of 30.6 billion was shown (plus or minus the amount stolen).
