Russia plans to replace the intel and amd chips with national-brand ones.
Russia openly reports that it plans to replace all foreign-brand chips (mostly Intel and AMD) with those of its national brand Baikal. The first to be manufactured will be the Baikal M series and Baikal S / M chips. With a 64-bit nucleus Cortex A-57 base and manufactured by the English company ARM. Its frequency will be 2 GHz for personal computers and micro servers.
The Baikal chips will be installed in the equipment of the government bodies and in state-owned companies, which buy some 700, 000 personal computers a year worth 375 million euros and 300, 000 servers worth 650 million euros. The total volume of the market amounts to about 5 million devices worth 2.7 billion euros.
Initially, this abandonment of foreign chips only appears to be directed at government / state systems, and in the short term there will be no plans to abolish US-made hardware or import bans. The new Russian-made processors are called "Baikal" and designed by T-Platforms in cooperation with Rostec and Rosnano. The name of the Baikal processor refers to Lake Baikal, the deepest freshwater lake in the world.
