Ryzen 9 3950x reaches 4.3 ghz on all 16 cores with liquid cooling

The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 32-core 16-core may have had a slight delay until November, but it looks like the wait will be well worth it. According to Gigabyte, overclockers may have even more reason to be excited than "just" a generous core and thread ratio.

Ryzen 9 3950X reaches 4.3 GHz on all 16 cores

Gigabyte has released an Ryzen 9 3950X overclocking guide where the motherboard maker was able to bring its sample to an impressive 4.3 GHz frequency across all 16 cores while using a liquid cooling solution, at just 1.4V.

Gigabyte paired its Ryzen 9 3950X with the brand's own X570 Aorus Master motherboard, the Aorus 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 memory kit, and the EKWB EK-KIT P360 liquid cooling kit. The manufacturer used Cinebench R15 to evaluate 16-core chip stock and OC performance.

In stock, the Ryzen 9 3950X scored 3, 932 points on Cinebench R15, which is 92.4% faster than a Core i9-9900K and 81% faster than the Core i9-9900K @ 5 GHz on all cores (which would be similar to a Core i9-9900KS). For now, Intel's Core i9 series stands as its most powerful competitor chip on a conventional platform, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.

You can also see that the difference in performance compared to a Ryzen 9 3900X is 25.5% in favor of the 3950X model. The results are even more impressive once Gigabyte overclocked the chip at 4.3 GHz.

The fact that the Ryzen 9 3950X can hit 4.3 GHz across all its cores is a great achievement, especially when Ryzen's 3000 series processors are famous for not having much manual OC margin.

Apparently AMD has selected the best 7nm matrices for this model, and that's why they have tolerance to operate at such high frequencies. Gigabyte states that 1.45V is the maximum safe voltage. The value may be too high, and keeping it around 1.4V sounds more reasonable.

The Ryzen 9 3950X will cost about $ 749 and will be out in November.
