Ryzen why did amd choose this name instead of zen?

AMD is shaking the market for processors with its new Ryzen, which promise to put Intel in serious trouble as it did not happen for a long time. Let's discover the origin of its name

The name "Zen" was quite popular, and AMD claims to have made the choice of that name to emphasize the balance that existed between all the design pillars of the new CPU architecture.

Why did AMD change the name to Ryzen?

According to John Taylor, corporate vice president of marketing for AMD, they did so because they had no choice. AMD wanted to name its processors "Zen" but ran into some drawbacks. In the United States, one of the largest markets in the world, registering the “Zen” brand would be impossible due to the large number of Zen products that are already on the market, AMD did not want this but a “strong and unique” name.

So AMD felt compelled to search for another name. Back in 2015, they were struck by the space mission to Pluto called New Horizons, New Horizon in English. The word Horizon in English is pronounced Hori-'Zen ', there it all began.

First they cut the word and "zenified" it, transforming the name originally as Rizen. But the word still did not convince AMD, they were afraid that people would pronounce it as "risen" and therefore they modified it again to the already definitive Ryzen, with the aim that the word was pronounced with the zeta they were looking for, remembering to the original first name "Zen".
