Ryzen will have 6-core models, frequencies revealed

Table of contents:

After the rumor that AMD Ryzen would not allow six-core processors, new information comes to light that confirms what many of us expected, you cannot make physical 6-core chips, but we can see processors with only 6 cores assets.

In effect, Ryzen is based on quad-core CCX modules so all processors will have to have a multiple core number of four. However, this does not prevent that cores can be deactivated to offer processors with six assets and even two if they wanted, although the latter if we are not going to see it. So if we are going to see active Ryzen processors with four, six and eight physical cores.

Ryzen operating frequencies revealed

First we know the frequencies of the eight-core processors, all of them with 16 threads, a TDP of 95W and amounts of cache memory of 16 MB L3 and 4 MB L2. A total of three top-of-the-range Ryzen processors “ZD3406BAM88F4_38 / 34_Y”, “1D3601A2M88F3_39 / 36_N” and ZD3601BAM88F4_40 / 36_Y have been listed. These processors reach a base and turbo frequencies of 3.4 / 3.8, 3.6 / 3.9 and 3.6 / 4.0 GHz respectively, therefore it is confirmed that Ryzen will be able to reach 4 GHz on its eight-core chips.

Best processors on the market (2016)

Below we talk about a processor with six active cores with the code name "ZD3301BBM6IF4_37 / 33_Y" and that reaches frequencies of 3.3 GHz and 3.7 GHz in base and turbo modes respectively. In this case the cache is reduced to 12 MB L3 and nothing has been said about its TDP although it should be less than 95W. Of course, other six-core processors with higher operating frequencies are to be expected.

Let's not forget that Ryzen has the Extended Frequency Range (XFR) technology that allows the processor to exceed its turbo frequency when it has good cooling, with this we can see the eight-core chips above 4 GHz.
