Samsung has announced the creation of the first LPDDR4 memory chip with a capacity of 8 GB that promises to greatly improve the multimedia experience on all our mobile devices, especially those with an Ultra HD resolution screen.

Samsung takes a huge step forward with its 8GB LPDDR4 chip

Samsung's new 8GB LPDDR4 “superchip” uses a total of four 16 gigabit (Gb) LPDDR4 chips manufactured in the 10nm process to achieve 8GB capacity final packaging. Samsung claims that this will make possible a new generation of mobile devices much more capable than the current ones and that it is a necessity in the face of the new era dominated by Ultra HD screens, virtual reality and dual sensor cameras.

This new 8 GB LPDDR4 chip works at a speed of 4, 266 Mbps, making it twice as fast as the most common DDR4 memories found in PCs that operate at a speed of 2, 133 Mbps. Its high speed allows it to obtain a 34 GB / s bandwidth when using a 64-bit only interface. Thanks to this we will have mobile devices with a much higher performance in the most demanding tasks such as Ultra HD video playback, video games with more complex graphics and of course the same virtual reality.

The advanced manufacturing process at 10 nm allows great energy efficiency so that the battery consumption is reduced and helps improve autonomy. The new chip consumes the same energy as the previous 4 GB designs, which is a great advance in this field. The chip is built with dimensions of only 15mm x 15mm and a thickness of 1mm, thereby minimizing the need for space to a minimum to enable a new generation of ultra slim and more attractive devices.
