Samsung is putting the finishing touches on its new Samsung SSD 960 EVO solid state storage unit (SSD), characterized by being the first unit to be based on the new and advanced Polaris controller from the prestigious South Korean firm.

Samsung PM961 units are based on the same components as the 960 EVO, including the Polaris controller and the same 48-layer 3D-VNAND memory technology. With this, it is capable of reaching data transfer rates in sequential read and write of 3000 MB / s and 1150 MB / s respectively, for its part, the 4K random performance amounts to 360, 000 IOPS. The Samsung SSD 960 EVO will arrive in M.2 NGFF-2280 and PCIe formats, in both cases with a PCI-Express 3.0 x4 bus and with the NVMe protocol.
