Samsung ssd t7 touch: ssd nvme hard drive with fingerprint sensor
Table of contents:
The future has arrived: Samsung launches the T7 Touch SSD, an external SSD hard drive that works with a fingerprint sensor. We show you everything inside.
One of the novelties that this CES from Las Vegas brings us is this Samsung portable SSD hard drive : the T7 Touch. The fact that it is an SSD is not new, but the security system based on the fingerprint sensor seems interesting to us on a practical level. So, we are going to show you this device in depth. Are you ready?
Samsung SSD T7 Touch: portable and secure
We already saw in 2017 the T5 SSD , which was an external SSD with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface. Since then, many technologies have come onto the market, such as the introduction of NVMe, etc. On this occasion, Samsung has presented two models: the T7 SSD and the T7 Touch SSD. Both have the same characteristics, but only one difference: the fingerprint sensor of the "Touch" version.
The two products are NVMe SSD hard drives and their interface is USB 3.2 Gen 2, which offers read / write speeds ranging from 1050/1000 Mbps. Historically, Samsung has used its external SSDs as test hard drives for the next V-NAND generations. In the case of this device, the company has used the sixth generation V-NAND 136-layer.
Regarding the fingerprint sensor of the T7 Touch, to say that it has a password protection based on 256-bit AES encryption. In this way, Samsung provides a biometric security system to the device. Its purpose is somewhat strange due to the demands of the market, since there are safer options, such as FIPS certification. So, we have thought that the Samsung product is for average consumers.
Finally, say that the area of the fingerprint sensor is illuminated by a blue LED and the housing is finished in aluminum.
Price and launch
On the one hand, we like the progress, but we would have to see what the basic version costs, since we already have the prices for the "Touch" version.
