Samsung has trouble producing drama memories again

A few weeks ago, Samsung had experienced a manufacturing problem at one of its DRAM factories, according to the company, causing them an unspecified amount of damage equivalent to millions of dollars. The cause of all this had been contaminated equipment .

The problems occurred in one of Samsung's smallest factories, where today they are among the few that continue to manufacture 1X nm class DRAM chips in 200mm wafers. This contaminated equipment had a major impact throughout the factory, causing many DRAM batches to be defective. The exact amount of damage done is not yet known. Samsung acknowledged in the BussinesKorea media that the loss was approaching a few billion South Korean won. Considering that 1 trillion South Korean won equals 780, 000 euros, it would be a very soft loss. Industry experts say the damage is likely to be even greater as Samsung has yet to fully estimate the full value of the loss. According to the company, the problems have already been solved and production has been restored.

A few months ago, TSMC, Samsung's biggest competitor on the market, had similar problems. At that time, TSMC had confirmed the use of “ deviating from specification ” chemicals and initially stated that this would adversely affect production performance. The company initially estimated the associated losses at around $ 250 million, then the forecast was lowered to $ 170 million. In the end, it was completely different, the resulting financial loss was equivalent to about $ 550 million.
