Carrefour leaves the Sapphire Radeon RX at an unbeatable price

The AMD Radeon 400/500 are a series of graphics cards made by AMD that offer great value for money since their launch. These GPUs were the first to introduce Polaris GPUs, using the 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. The Polaris family initially included two new chips in the Graphics Core Next (GCN) family (Polaris 10 and Polaris 11) and implements the fourth generation of the Graphics Core Next instruction set, which are common elements with previous GCN microarchitectures.

The Polaris 10 silicon has 2304 stream processors in 36 compute units (CU), and supports up to 8GB of GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit memory interface. According to AMD, their primary goal with the Polaris design was energy efficiency. Polaris 10 was initially planned to be a mid-range chip, which was introduced with the AMD Radeon RX 480, with a TDP of around 150W compared to its predecessor R9 380 with 190W TDP. Despite this, Polaris 10 will run the latest DirectX 12 games at 1080p resolution with a stability of 60 images per second.

The AMD Radeon RX 580 and RX 590 respectively use the Polaris 20 and Polaris 30 silicon. Polaris 20 identical to Polaris 10, although it operates at a higher frequency and achieves a TDP of 185W, while Polaris 30 is a process reduction at 12nm from Global Foundries that reaches even higher frequencies and has a TDP of 225W.

Radeon RX 470 and RX 570 are based on a shorter version of Polaris 10 and Polaris 20, with 2048 stream processors and approximate TDP ranges of 120W and 150W. These chips offer a performance quite similar to the Polaris 10 and Polaris 20 complete chip, although with somewhat better energy efficiency due to having fewer computing units. These cards maintain the same GDDR5 memory configuration.
