Problems for Intel continue this year 2018, a new vulnerability has emerged in the company's processors, this time it is a security problem that could allow malware to erase the UEFI BIOS from the motherboard, or the EEPROM chip save it as read-only forever, making future BIOS updates impossible, exploiting vulnerabilities in Intel's implementation of SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) on their platforms.

Intel already has the solution to the new vulnerability

This is a new security breach found on April 3, and with the code name CVE-2017-5703, this new vulnerability affects all Intel processors, which date from the fifth generation "Broadwell". Intel is already working to fix the problem as soon as possible as it is already sending corrections to its OEM partners to release as BIOS updates.

The vulnerability came to light when Lenovo, Intel's largest OEM partner, implemented BIOS updates for its vulnerable products, Lenovo claims that the vulnerability could allow an attacker to block BIOS / UEFI updates, or selectively erase or Damaging parts of the firmware, which would most likely result in a visible malfunction, but in rare circumstances could result in arbitrary code execution. Intel said it discovered the vulnerability internally, and hasn't noticed any exploits that take advantage of it. Intel already knows the cause of the problem, so mitigation is now available to its partners.

Modern processors with extremely complex, making it almost impossible to manufacture a design that has no vulnerability, fortunately they can be fixed as they are discovered.
