Browsealoud plugin is compromised and thousands of websites use user processors to mine

Browsealoud is a tool created by the British company Texthelp, which is responsible for reading websites aloud to help people with dyslexia or partial blindness. Luckily, the crypto infection did not spread outside of Browsealoud, so the affected websites have only been around for about five hours, as the plugin anomaly was detected by Texthelp's suite of automated security tests. Browsealoud will remain out of service until a deep independent security review can be completed.

Texthelp has implemented continuous automatic security tests for Browsealoud, which detected the modified file and as a result the product went offline. This immediately removed Browsealoud from all of our customer sites, addressing the security risk without our customers having to take any action.

This compromised version of Browsealoud caused the processor of the user who entered to visit the affected websites to be used to mine Monero, although only for the time that it remained on said website.
