Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M and CA200G are the two new chassis that the manufacturer launched in early July 2019. Two chassis in which the only difference lies in its front, opting for grille (metal mesh) or tempered glass in case we want a better appearance or better cooling. We will review the CA200M version, a chassis with ARGB lighting of 13 effects on the front, large capacity for storage and gaming hardware, and a large front that supports radiators up to 420 mm.
A great option at a good price for enthusiasts that we will review in depth today, but not before thanking Sharkoon for his trust in Professional Review when he gave us his product for the analysis.
Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M technical characteristics
Unboxing
Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M has arrived in a double rigid cardboard box. The manufacturer has placed a first simple, neutral-colored box to support the beatings of the delivery men, while the inner box is the one with all the faces painted black and with the huge “ELITE” logo on the front, in addition to its specification.
We open the box, which in this case will be done with the box stretched out and on the wider face, much easier to remove it. At both ends we have the chassis tucked inside two molds of black polyethylene foam and in turn in a thick black textile bag, like Premium products, yes sir.
The bundle consists of the following components:
- Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M chassis Tempered glass (in separate box) Screws, two velcro clips and a back plate Assembly instruction manual
A fairly complete pack, with many screws, all well classified and the absence of RGB cables. Why? Well, because it comes pre-installed to use it directly on our board.
Exterior design
As we mentioned at the beginning, the Sharkoon ELITE SHARK comes in two different versions. We have the CA200M whose front comes with a fully breathable steel mesh, and the CA200G, which is replaced by a black tinted tempered glass front. And this is the only difference, since the chassis are exactly the same and have the same benefits.
The majority of this chassis has steel sheets of good thickness and enough rigidity to make a strong assembly that supports quite heavy hardware. This we will notice quickly for its weight of 11.5 Kg and its thick right plate. The measurements of this chassis almost make it a complete tower that already exceeds 50 cm both in height and depth. In this way it supports practically any type of component, be it source, GPU or motherboard, and of course cooling.
As usual we will start the analysis from the left side of the Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M. We must take into account that the tempered glass comes in a separate cardboard box, and not pre-installed in the chassis. This panel occupies the entire side, and is installed by means of two tilt-and-turn hinges. Something important that we should know is that in the box of screws we have the two that fix the plate to the chassis and also two rubbers that we must insert between the glass and the chassis for its correct fixation.
At the front, the plastic on the front has a side opening to let air in. It already has a fine-grained filter to prevent the entry of dust.
We go to the opposite side, and find a thick sheet of steel fixed by means of four manual thread screws on the side. The veneer is of very good quality, with reinforced frames and a rough texture that helps to catch it.
What I personally did not like is having four screws on the side, instead of being fixed on the back. Something that would be more discreet, elegant and quick to remove and put on.
We now turn to see the front area, where the difference between the two models lies. In this case, we analyze the CA200M chassis, with a “ metal mesh ” or metal mesh design. In it, a rigid perforated mesh has been placed that allows the front to be completely open to the outside. In this way the air will not have any impediment to enter the interior in large quantities, so it is the ideal configuration for gaming equipment that many fans. The CA200G version replaces this mesh with a dark tinted tempered glass that makes it more elegant, but also more closed.
We can remove this front in a simple way just by pulling it out from below. In this way we see that a magnetic and medium grain dust filter has been placed to further protect the air passage. The front supports up to 3 120 or 140 mm fans, or radiators up to 420 mm. Too bad not to find any pre-installed fans.
The most important thing for many will be the lighting, and Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M has a double system on the sides of the central area. This is RGB addressable and is connected to a microcontroller that is compatible with the lighting systems of the board manufacturers thanks to a pre-installed 4-pin ARGB header.
The upper area is almost entirely occupied by a large opening that allows the expulsion of hot air to the outside. It also has a medium grain and magnetic dust filter, and supports 120mm triple fan, 140mm double fan or radiator up to 360mm. We do not have any pre-installed elements, as it happens on the front.
What we do have is the port panel located on the front of this area. This has the following ports:
- 2x USB 3.1 Gen12x USB 2.0 3.5mm audio and microphone jacks Power button RGB button 2x Activity indicator LEDs
We only need a USB Type-C, although with this good variety and quantity we do not complain at all.
The back shows the 120mm ARGB fan that comes pre-installed in the chassis. Next to it, we have 8 + 2 expansion slots, enough for all the motherboards that this chassis supports. In addition, its width allows us to install a vertical GPU, thanks to the two extra slots. Of course, we will have to buy the kit on our own.
We end with the lower area, where again, we have a protected opening that occupies most of the area. In this case the filter is fine grain, of very good quality and can be easily removed by moving it to one side. Although we see certain guides to install fans, in principle it will not be possible to do this, since we have an installed hard drive cabinet and the space that the PSU will occupy.
The four legs we have, have a height of about 3 cm from the ground. It has a rubber coating to avoid damaging tables or surfaces when placing the chassis. This allows air circulation to be simply excellent, not only in this area, but throughout the chassis.
Interior and assembly
Sharkoon has taken great care of the interior of his creation, a drawer composed of the three typical zones of PSU and HDD, cable management and main compartment. All the holes for pulling cables are protected by black rubber, something that shows that he competes in higher leagues.
We also see prominently a front bracket for graphics cards and multiple rails that will allow the installation of water tanks for custom liquid cooling systems. But it is that in addition the base of the cover of the PSU is taken advantage of to the maximum, because it has two brackets for SSD disks, and a third element that allows to install SSD or refrigeration tanks. Great work on detail by the Sharkoon.
As far as hardware is concerned, the Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M supports standard ATX size power supplies up to 240mm long. Similarly, it supports graphics cards up to 425mm in length and CPU coolers up to 165mm in height. Supports all kinds of motherboard: E-ATX, ATX, Micro ATX, Mini ITX and also special formats, such as SS1 CEB, SSI EEB with double socket for CPU and extended size in width.
The space for cable management gives us about 4 cm thick, although without any specific system for storing cables. This means that we will have to pull clips to organize the cables, something that will be quite easy due to the large size and space we have.
Storage capacity
As before, let's start with the main compartment to list the hard drive locations of this Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M. First of all, we have two brackets specially dedicated to installing 2.5-inch SSD drives, which are also removable using manual thread screws. A third bracket is intended either to install another 2.5-inch unit or a water tank.
If we now go to the back we will find in front of us two new large brackets that accept 2.5 ”and 3.5” units, thanks to the 4 cm free thickness. We can see that above they have a screw that holds them, so to remove the sheet we will loosen it, and then we will move the entire sheet up. It is a fixing and sliding system, so we should not try to remove the screw completely, since it is fixed to the bracket.
And the third element will be the traditional wardrobe that admits two units of 3.5 "or 2.5", to suit the consumer. Its fixings also have rubber caps, like the previous ones, so we will avoid vibrations and noise. Removing the manual screw from the front, we can completely remove the cabinet to install the hard drives.
Refrigeration
The next key section is refrigeration, and Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M have a lot to say in this regard. The two available models of the brand have space for the following fans:
- Front: 3x 120mm / 3x 140mm Top: 3x 120mm / 2x 140mm Rear: 1x 120mm
A huge capacity that is only limited a little at the top by not admitting a 140mm triple fan, although it does support them in the front. What we miss a lot is a greater number of pre-installed fans, for example three in the front area in addition to the rear that is ARGB. It is a way of adjusting the price, we know, but imagine that it would have been nice to make a version that includes them for users who want the full pack.
The cooling capacity will also be excellent:
- Front: 120/140/240/280/360/420 mm Upper: 120/140/240/280/360 mm Rear: 120 mm
Fitting a custom system like the Corsair Hydro X will be a reality in this chassis, since we can introduce large radiators. We can see this by taking a look at the front and top spaces of the chassis. We just have to keep in mind that the fans will not fit between the front casing and the chassis, so we recommend mounting them to blow air in case of liquid cooling. As we mentioned before, at least one water tank is allowed in the front area, both attached to the side and in the pre-installed base.
We also greatly appreciate the fact that we have dust filters in all the holes except the rear, in this way we will keep the chassis fairly clean for a long time. All are removable, even those located on the sides of the front plastic case.
illumination
In this case we have lighting that is detailed and extensive enough to dedicate a small section to it. In fact, the front area, with its two bands, and the pre-installed fan, has addressable RGB or ARGB lighting. The system will be connected to a microcontroller located in the cable compartment with YM1816C V2.1 specification.
This Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M controller allows you to configure up to 13 lighting modes thanks to the button on the I / O panel. It is made up of 8 ports or 4-pin RGB headers of the 5V-DG type (3 operational pins), power supply through the SATA header and 5V-DG or VDG type output for connection to the motherboard. In this way we will have compatibility with Asus AURA Syunc, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light and ASRock Polychrome RGB systems. A fairly powerful system in effects and compatibility and extremely easy to understand and use, since everything is included. In addition, the system is expandable to 6 more fans or RGB strips, due to its excellent capacity.
Installation and assembly
Now we are going straight to the assembly of our example bench in Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M, which consists of the following elements:
- Asus Crosshair VII X470 ATX motherboard and 16GB RAMAMD Ryzen 2700X memory with RGB stock heatsink Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card PSU Corsair AX860i reference
The truth is that there is not much to say about the installation procedure, since in this type of large chassis it is very comfortable and fast. We have plenty of space for as many cables as we need, although it is true that two velcro strips are very few. The available cable slot at the top left is more than enough for the 8-pin CPU connectors and rear fan cables.
Something that has not been used this time is the support for the GPU, since the Nvidia RTX 2060 is tiny and does not even make contact with it. In case of using it, we only have to loosen the two rear screws with manual thread, place it at the convenient height and tighten them.
Finally, I want to make a note, and that is that the hole to put the PSU will pose problems if it measures more than 160 mm long and 86 mm thick. This is because a good part of the area to put it has a metal edge that blocks the entrance of the source, and the closet at the other end does not make things easier either. In our case, the Corsair AX860i is 86 mm thick and does not fit through this area, however, the HDD cabinet can be removed or moved.
We will have an important action, which will be to connect all the ports and elements available in the chassis. First, we need to power the lighting controller, so we'll assign a SATA connector to it. If we are not going to manage the LEDs with the board, we will leave the 4-pin header unused.
We will have the typical connectors, such as the double USB 3.1 Gen1 always blue and the audio and USB 2.0 in traditional format. This time we do not have an F_Panel adapter, so we will have to manually install all the headers in their corresponding place on the board.
Final score
After these small appreciations, we leave you the Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M chassis assembly and in operation to see how good it is.
Final words and conclusion about Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M
So far comes our in-depth review of the Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M, a chassis that stands out for its build quality and impressive ability to install high-end hardware and cooling. And it supports all kinds of motherboards, very large graphics cards and even in vertical installation. It also supports 7 hard drives, which can be 2.5 ”(7) or 3.5” (4).
Another of its great qualities is the well-kept interior that is presented to us. Hard disks very well placed and maximum space used, or rubber protections for the gaps. The space is huge, and the holder for the GPU or the bracket for water tanks will be very interesting for custom cooling systems, such as the Hydro X by Corsair.
And its cooling capacity is not less, up to 7 fans of 120 mm in front, top and rear, or 5 fans of 140 mm in top and front. In all holes there are high quality filters with fine and medium grain that will protect us from dirt. Of course, we only have one ARG pre-installed, which is very little in these times. We order at least a third version that includes three on the front panel.
We also recommend our article on the best chassis of the moment
The lighting and design section is also remarkable, with a double-lit front and the fan itself. The pre-installed microcontroller supports up to 8 elements, and compatibility with proprietary motherboard technologies. Personally I think that the front is aesthetically improvable, in addition the lighting is almost not seen if we face it. For your benefit, it offers a glass side installed on hinges and a large I / O panel.
An aspect that should also be considered is that the chassis does not have PWM control of the possible fans, for example integrated into the lighting controller. So there is no other way than to connect them through a hub to the board or to a MOLEX or SATA header of the source.
To finish, we will find this Sharkoon ELITE SHARK CA200M for a price of 119 euros in the two available models. The one we've reviewed is highly recommended for advanced cooling gaming gear, while the CA200G has a sleeker profile and we sacrifice front airflow. In both cases, and despite small details, it is a chassis that is very worthwhile.
