Sharp to stop production of oled panels for phones
Table of contents:
OLED panels for smartphones are a growing segment, although dominated by one brand. Samsung is the owner and lady in this market segment, with a percentage that in many cases is close to 90%. Sharp is one of its competitors in this segment, although the Japanese brand has not been able to cope with the Koreans, so they announce their exit from the market.
Sharp to stop production of OLED panels for phones
After the poor results in the second quarter, with just 60, 000 panels sold, they announce that they are leaving this market. Production has already officially stopped.
Market exit
Sharp has achieved a market share of just 0.1% in the second quarter of this year. Very far from the figures of Samsung, which stands at 87% in this case. The Korean brand dominates this segment, surpassing even others like LG that keep just 1% of the market, although they are closing agreements like the one they have signed with Apple.
In the case of the Japanese brand, this is not something they were lucky at. Therefore, seeing the losses that this division was generating and the low growth, rather losing ground, they make this decision.
An understandable decision, since Sharp has seen that they have little chance in this market segment. So they prefer to go out now, having officially stopped production in July, as several media already report in this case in Asia. What do you think about the company's decision in this regard?
