Unboxing and design

Shutlle prepares good packaging for its new Shuttle NC02U equipment with a very ecological and compact design. On one side we find all the technical characteristics of the product: components, dimensions and weight.

As we can see, specifically we have the most basic model: Intel Celeron 3855U with Skylake processor and DDR3L memory compatibility.

Once we open it and as we expected, it comes perfectly protected and brings a wide range of accessories. We detail what it incorporates as standard:

Shuttle NC02U. External power supply and European power cable. Disc with software and drivers. Instruction manual and quick guide. Vertical platform and a second VESA 75/100 mm for installation behind the monitor.

The NC02U Shuttle It has dimensions of 142 x 142 x 42 mm (0.85L) and a fairly light weight for its power. Its black color design dresses very well for any design room or work desk.

On the front we find the power button, an SD card reader, two USB 3.0 type A and C connections.

While on both sides we find some racks to improve its cooling , a COM RS232 connection and a Kensington security blocker.

We focus on the front and we find a power connection, an HDMI connection, another DisplayPort, a Gigabit 10/100/1000 network connection, two USB connections and a sound input for the speakers.

Components and interior

Once we remove them we are left with two parts: the rear area and the entire motherboard. Remember that the system comes without a SATA disk or pre-installed memory, so we will have to install it.

It has an Intel Celeron 3855U processor based on Intel's Skylake dual-core architecture with a manufacturing process of 14nm and frequencies of 1.6 GHz (base), 2 MB of L3 cache and a very low TDP of 15W that can drop to 10W lowering its frequency.

As we have previously commented, incorporate two DDR3L slots to install a maximum of 32 GB of RAM memory with a maximum voltage of 1.35v (data to be taken into account). We recommend our guide on how to install DDR4 SODIMM memory.

On the storage we have an M.2 2280 connection with a bandwidth of 32GB / s and a SATA connection for a conventional 2.5-inch disk.

Among its connectivity it has a Realtek RTL8188E card for its Wifi 802.11 B / G / N connection, which seems to us a mistake not to incorporate an AC connection, since we are in 2017.

We have installed an 8GB, 1.35V DDR3L module as main memory and an M.2 disk. Crucial MX300 275 GB with M.2 connection. that we have in the test bench for these occasions.

We have tested both Windows 10 with KODI and the results have been excellent in 1080p multimedia playback. In addition, the Intel HD 510 graphics card allows us to freely move our 4K resolution) to the same level as the i7 model and saving us quite a few euros.

Final words and conclusion about Shuttle NC02U

The Shuttle NC02U is an ideal MiniPC for use in our living room as a multimedia player as a basic and low-consumption office equipment.

Its Intel Celeron 3855U processor at a speed of 1.6 GHz is designed in the Skylake architecture which allows us to have a consumption of about 15W. Among its features it allows us to install a total of 32 GB of DDR3L RAM, an M.2 SATA disk and a 2.5 ″ drive to have a complete computer in a very restrained size.

The assembly of the Shuttle NC02U is not as simple as other Intel NUC models have accustomed us. We hope that Shuttle takes this into account to have a box with better access to its interior, but it still takes us about 15 minutes to complete the assembly correctly (nothing alarming).

Its price in online store is 157 euros with shipping included (Amazon), which makes it a great and cheap option. It has left us a great taste in the mouth, and we see it as a 100% recommended option for those users who are looking for something small and sufficient for everyday use.
