For small form factor enthusiasts, the standard SFX form factor power supply has an excellent combination of size, power and price. At 100mm deep, however, the standard FA SFX is also limited in fan size to 80mm. Although advancements in engineering and components have made modern high-performance FA SFXs quieter than ever, there is still an inherent limitation with 80mm fans to dissipate heat under peak load conditions while maintaining a satisfactory noise profile for users sensitive to higher pitched sounds. With this in mind, SilverStone has released an "elongated" variant of the SFX form factor called SFX-L. With added 30mm depth, an SFX-L power supply has enough space to fit a 120mm fan, then its maximum loudness can be not only less in intensity (by lower fan speed), but also in pitch (due to a larger fan size).
