SK Hynix continues to expand its DRAM memory production capacity, however additional investments are essential to meet the growing demand for chips of this type of memory. As semiconductor manufacturing equipment becomes more expensive, it is also important to ensure enough clean room space upfront. All of these factors have contributed to the Company's investment plan.
SK Hynix has strengthened its competitiveness through continued investments and expansion of capacity since joining the SK Group. This new factory in Icheon is the third after M14, which was completed in 2015, and another factory in Cheongju, which is under construction. Once construction is complete and equipment is fully installed, total investment in the three factories will exceed 46 billion won. SK Hynix will continue to strive to consolidate its leadership in the industry and contribute to the national economy and the creation of social value.
With this heavy investment from SK Hynis, there is one more reason to think that RAM prices will start to drop in not many months, following in the footsteps of the already slumping SSDs.
