Snapdragon 865 would have two variants: one with 4g and the other with 5g
Table of contents:
Qualcomm is already working on its new high-end processor, Snapdragon 865. A processor that should be released sometime this year, probably by the end of the year. In its current high-end processor, Snapdragon 855, we find a modem, which makes it compatible with 5G. Although this is something that each manufacturer is going to decide, if they want such compatibility. It could also happen with the new one.
Snapdragon 865 would have two variants: One with 4G and the other with 5G
In this case, new reports suggest that there would be two variants of the chip. One of them with 4G and the other that would already be with 5G support.
New high-end processor
This would undoubtedly give each phone manufacturer the ability to choose which version of Snapdragon 865 they want to use on their phone. Depending on the market it may make sense to use the 4G version and in other cases it might be better to use the 5G version. Also, keep in mind that those who are going to choose the 4G version know that it is cheaper, so that the phone would be cheaper.
Since so far, the few phones that have been released with 5G support, some of them already available in Switzerland, are more expensive than the models that have 4G. It seems that this is something that will last for a while.
For now they are rumors, without confirmation. It is quite a few months before Snapdragon 865 launches on the market, it will probably be officially presented later this year. Therefore, we will see if Qualcomm finally bets on two versions of it or not.
