It looks like Raspberry Pi is going to have a tough competitor from now on, with the introduction of SOPINE A64. This new miniPC increases the amount of memory to 2GB of RAM, double what Raspberry Pi 3 offers at practically the same price.

SOPINE A64 doubles the RAM memory of the Raspberry Pi

These tiny computers integrate on the same PCB a processor, graphics, memory and all the connectivity to use it as a computer. There are several models of miniPC that compete with each other, in an interesting market that has opened up with these tiny PCs, used for a multitude of purposes, such as robotics, for surveillance cameras, weather systems, for automation of tasks at home, as a portable music player, and a long etc.

SOPINE A64 becomes a new competitor in this segment, with a module consisting of a 64-bit processor and four Cortex-A53 cores, Mali-400MP2 GPU and about 2GB of RAM. Of course, it has a microSD card slot, which is used to store all the data on the system.

The base model of the SOPINE A64 costs about $ 29, the same price as the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3, which has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage space.

The developer PINE64 confirmed that the SOPINE Model A, which will allow us to mount this module and create and customize our own PC, will cost around 9.99 dollars. The pack of this module together with the SOPINE A64 will be available for $ 34.99.

Without a doubt, it is an interesting alternative to the Raspberry Pi, especially for the amount of extra memory that never hurts. It is expected to be available during the month of February.
