Silicon Power has announced its new line of stylish SP Bolt B80 external SSDs. This SSD model comes with a robust UFO-shaped chassis and IP68 dust and water proof certification. When it comes to performance, the Bolt B80 resembles other external SSDs that offer read speeds of up to 500MB / s. The new unit also uses a USB Type-C input to facilitate connection to the latest laptops.

SP Bolt B80 will come in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities

The Silicon Power Bolt B80 family of external SSDs includes models with capacities of 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB. The manufacturer does not disclose what type of NAND flash memory it uses, nor the driver for the drive, but only publishes the maximum product sequential read and sequential write speeds: 500MB / s and 450MB / s, respectively. These levels of performance indicate that we are probably dealing with an entry-level SSD drive packaged in a beautiful to look at format, but good news is that the drive reserves plenty of NAND flash to ensure durability.

It is resistant to falls, water and dust

Apart from the performance, the chassis design is another important point SP Bolt B80. The units are made of machined aluminum that is robust enough to withstand a 1.22 meter free fall (MIL-STD-810G 516.7 Procedure IV) and is IP68 waterproof and dustproof.

SP Bolt B80's external SSDs are covered by a three-year limited warranty and will likely hit the market in the coming weeks. They haven't mentioned anything about the price, which should be very competitive.
