SteamVR finally comes to Linux, at least partially, thanks to Valve releasing a Beta version of this platform available for developers to start implementing it in their video games and applications.

The first SteamVR games for Linux are approaching

SteamVR libraries for Linux are already available on the GitHub site, so developers of this system can now start working to adapt their games.

The implementation of SteamVR is still in diapers, there are some errors such as the desktop view that generates errors and the power control of the base stations. For SteamVR to work you will have to use a specific Nvidia driver, in the case of AMD some other more additional steps, but it is a good start to start seeing the first games and applications for the beloved penguin system.

Valve and HTC already working on the second generation Live

Linux is a system in which Valve has a particular interest, since it is the operating system that Steam OS uses, which are present in their Steam Machines equipment. Therefore, implementing SteamVR on Linux plays a fundamental role in promoting virtual reality on these devices. In this sense, Valve already announced that it was working on several video games for virtual reality, which they will surely want to work on Steam OS.

Valve and HTC are currently developing the second generation of their Vive virtual reality glasses, which will help lower manufacturing costs thanks to a new, simplified motion detection mechanism. The new HTC Vive glasses are expected to be ready by the end of this year.
