Stratix 10mx fpga is the first intel hpc processor with hbm2 memory
Table of contents:
Intel has announced its new Stratix 10MX FPGA solution, the first FPGA package to make use of HBM2 memory technology to deliver bandwidth that is 10 times more than what DDR4 is capable of.
Intel Stratix 10MX FPGA with HBM2 memory
Stratix 10MX FPGA includes two HBM2 memory stacks with what is capable of offering a bandwidth of 512 GB / s, EMIB technology has been used to interconnect all the elements, the same that is used in Coffee series processors Lake G including AMD Vega graphics.
In the HPC environment the ability to compress and decompress data before or after mass movements is paramount. HBM2-based FPGAs can compress and accelerate larger data movements compared to standalone FPGAs. Intel Stratix 10 MX FPGAs can simultaneously read and write data, as well as encrypt and decrypt data in real time without overloading host CPU resources.
Best processors on the market (2017)
The Intel Stratix 10 MX FPGA family provides a maximum memory bandwidth of 512 GB /. HBM2 vertically stacks DRAM layers using Silicon Via Technology (TSV). These DRAM layers sit on a base layer that connects to the FPGA. The Intel Stratix 10 MX FPGA family uses Intel's Embedded Multi-Die Interconnect Bridge (EMIB) that speeds up communication between the FPGA fabric and DRAM. EMIB works to efficiently integrate HBM2 with a high-performance monolithic FPGA fabric, thereby solving the memory bandwidth bottleneck in an energy efficient way.
Intel is shipping several variants of the Intel Stratix 10 FPGA family, including Intel Stratix 10 GX FPGAs with 28G transceivers and Intel Stratix 10 SX FPGAs with built- in quad-core ARM processor. The Intel Stratix 10 FPGA family uses Intel's 14nm FinFET manufacturing process.
