They test the function 'auto

AMD's Adrenalin 2019 released yesterday with tons of new features. One of the most important additions is to be able to auto-overclock our Radeon graphics card.

Test of the 'Auto-Overclocking' function of the Adrenalin 2019 controllers

The people of Wccftech have wanted to take a look at this option and share it. There are actually 3 options that can be chosen within the Radeon Wattman utility for Auto-Overclocking, at least on Vega cards, as the option did not appear when testing them on Polaris. Something to keep in mind with the Auto function is that only one of the options can be activated. Once any of the 3 Auto options are activated, you will lose any other controls.

The three Auto-Overclocking options and the results

  • Auto Undervolt - Intended to decrease the voltage necessary to operate effectively. Auto Overclock GPU - Increase the frequency of the GPU core by running a very fast frequency check. Auto Overclock Memory - Same as the core, but for memory (in tests it did nothing with the Vega 56).
OPTION Frequency achieved memory speed
Handbook 1590MHz (+ 15% Power) 945MHz
Auto Memory (A-Mem) 1590MHz 800MHz
Auto GPU (A-OC) 1710MHz 800MHz
Stock 1590MHz 800MHz

Taking a look at Firestrike and Firestrike Extreme, you get a clearer picture of the changes in performance and the truth is that it is not working quite well when compared to the overclocking that we can do manually. In the case of the RX Vega 56, the performance gain is minimal in testing. AMD is going to have to modify the decision of only being able to use an Auto-Overclocking option and not being able to combine them, that is, you cannot overclock the memory and the GPU at the same time. However, Auto-Undervolt does seem to work well based on Wccftech's conclusions, which seems to work well with manual settings.

Hopefully AMD improves this works and that it will soon be available on the RX 400 and 500 as well.
