The Taiwanese company Thermaltake has teamed up with Razer to launch a new iteration of the Thermaltake LEVEL 20 RGB with the new Razer Green switches .

The brand's new keyboard is a revisit to the LEVEL 20 RGB, which came out earlier this year. In this new version it offers switches from the Razer brand, which are competing with the veterans of the Cherry MX medium.

We can list a series of differences between the two switches, but, without a doubt, the most relevant section for an average user is quality. In this case, Razer guarantees 80 million keystrokes, leaving us 30 more than its direct competitor.

On the other hand, we have the differences between switches, although that is a matter of taste and that each one has to choose. The LEVEL 20 RGB comes in three versions depending on its switch: Cherry MX Blue, Cherry MX Speed Silver and Razer Green.

  1. The Razer Green are switches with a good response and a remarkable sound. If we made a comparison, we could place them in a middle point between Cherry Blue and Cherry Brown . On the other hand, Cherry Blue recalls those ancient times where mechanics was law. They are pieces with a high acting force and with a very sonorous characteristic sound. Finally, we have the Cherry Speed Silver , which are derivatives of the Cherry Red (fast switches and without too much sound), but with a much lower performance point.

Improve a winning formula

For this new keyboard iteration we can't comment much on what's new, since the only relevant change is the switches it mounts. For everything else, it is the same mechanical keyboard that we loved at the time.

We recommend our review of the LEVEL 20 RGB Gaming Keyboard.

We will make a quick review of the most important characteristics of this great peripheral, since we believe that it deserves it.

The LEVEL 20 RGB Gaming Keyboard is a very complete mechanical keyboard, with some design decisions that we like. Among the most obvious things we see the continuous cut by an LED strip that divides the two areas of the keyboard and that invites us to unconsciously focus on one of the parts.

The keyboard has keys for multimedia playback and sound control, a very useful function for day to day. It also has some buttons to enter 'gaming mode', to block the windows button or to vary the options of the LEDs.

Despite the fact that there are key combinations to change the light profiles, it is recommended to use the desktop or mobile applications, since we can choose many more things to measure. Among other things, the keyboard supports Razer Chroma RGB, so (with the classic 16.8 million colors…) you can do things like shine based on sounds, breathing and even coordinate with other Razer or Thermaltake devices such as memories RAM.

Finally, highlight its body without armrests (miraculous for some, torture for others) and its corners and rounded parts have a very pleasant touch. It also has two levels of elevation and as an extra feature, a minijack and a USB on the back. It is a very comfortable feature, but if you are looking for sound quality without interference or the least input-lag possible, we do not recommend using it.

Final thoughts

In general, as we have already mentioned, the LEVEL 20 RGB Gaming Keyboard is a high-performance keyboard for a relatively acceptable price. However, we cannot give up the title for best peripheral yet, as it is not perfect.

On the subject of switches, if you like heavy beats with characteristic sounds, Cherrys Blue is your choice. If you want the best gaming performance, the Speed Silver is the best of the three switches. Finally, if you want a balance between both options, the Razer Green must be your choice (personally I would opt for the latter).

It is a keyboard that we recommend without a doubt, but we are sure that there are levels above that we have yet to reach.

And you, what do you think of this keyboard? Do you think Razer Green is up to Cherry MX?
