AMD Threadripper 2990WX is officially the fastest consumer processor on the planet, taking the crown of performance in Cinebench testing, even beating the 28-core Intel prototype. The flagship of AMD's Threadripper 2 platform was built on a TSnC 12nm node and is based on the Zen + architecture.

Threadripper 2990WX 32-core with 5.1 GHz overclocking

A couple of years ago, AMD's CPU offering was several times slower than the more modest Intel CPU. Today, however, we are seeing the company take the crown of performance.

The fastest Intel CPU on the market right now is the 18-core Intel Core i9-7980XE, and the fastest prototype is the 28-core that has been tested at Computex. Intel's 28 cores scored Cinebench of 7, 344 points using a liquid cooling configuration. Right now, it is unknown what the 28 cores could achieve under LN2, but one thing is clear: the Threadripper 2990WX LN2 demo is faster than the Intel demo, which is now the world record holder.

The Tom's Hardware comparison leaves no room for doubt

It is also important to confirm that this comparison confirms the performance advantage of the 2990WX that AMD had claimed in a previously published news.

The Threadripper 2990WX will have a TDP of 250W, 16MB of L2 cache, 64MB of L3 cache, but only 4 channels of memory. The chip features a 3.0 GHz base clock and a 4.0 GHz maximum 'boost' clock. Current TR4 motherboards can host these chips, which are already very close to being released.
