Threadripper 3990x is overclocked @ 5.55ghz
Table of contents:
AMD has officially released its Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor, and with it comes plenty of new world overclocking records. That's right, the AMD Threadripper 3990X hasn't even been on sale for a day, and it's already setting records.
Threadripper 3990X running at 5.5GHz, 5.3GHz on all cores
The 64-core, 128-thread processor has been overclocked @ 5.55GHz, which was hit on MSI's Creator TRX40 motherboard and with a single DDR4 DIMM with a speed of 1866MHz in sync of CL13. This frequency is achieved on a single core, while on all cores the processor is capable of operating at 5.3 GHz.
With a frequency of 5.3 GHz on all cores, the Threadripper 3990X achieves a score of 39518 on Cinebench R20. This overclocking was done on an ASRock TRX40 Taichi motherboard with two 1250W power supplies and the G.Skill NEO memory running at 3200MHz with the CL11 times. This overclocking was accomplished using liquid nitrogen cooling.

Possibly we will see more attempts of overclocking with this processor, probably, improving these frequencies.
In stock, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X can already deliver mind-blowing levels of CPU performance on multi-threaded tasks, but in the world of overclocking, a CPU's stock performance is never enough. One has to wonder if we will ever see such a high Cinebench R20 score on a stock consumer grade CPU, and if so, how long will it take for such a processor to hit the market? We will keep you informed.
