- A quality smartwatch
The recent and little-known Chinese company Mobvoi launches the TicWatch Pro, a new version of the smartwatch, that improves what has already been seen in its TicWatch E and S, its first and acclaimed smart watches, which appeared on Kickstarter. This new model is based on Wear OS, Google's operating system, but where the biggest novelty is undoubtedly is the addition of a second FSTN LCD screen that sits on top of the AMOLED main screen. This black and white FSTN LCD screen is what allows this watch to have a minimum autonomy of two days and a maximum autonomy of up to 30 days in its Essential Mode. Let's take a look at it.
Technical specifications
Unboxing
Mobvoi offers careful packaging for your TicWatch Pro. A cardboard cover with a picture of the watch protects the main case, in black and with the model's name printed on it. Once opened, we find inside:

Design
The TicWatch Pro has a design that, at first glance, looks quite premium thanks to the carbon fiber construction next to the nylon of the watch body, and the use of stainless steel for the upper bezel that surrounds the screen. This bezel, which can be purchased in black or silver according to the desired design, has a series of serigraphs printed at intervals of 5. The central body has a diameter of 4.5 cm and a thickness of 1.46 cm. The total weight next to the straps is 77 grams.
The double screen has a size of 1.39 inches and in the case of the AMOLED, its resolution is 400 x 400 pixels, a more than acceptable resolution for such a device. On this screen, the colors are shown quite well and the maximum brightness is sufficient for outdoors, as long as the sun does not hit the sun directly.
The FSTN black-and-white LCD screen, which basically shows the time, date, step counter, and heart rate, has a similar visibility to its sister, it's good until we find plenty of direct sun.
On the right side of the body we find two function buttons next to numbers 2 and 4. The upper one is used to turn the screen on and off or, if you hold it down for a few seconds, to activate the Google Assistant. The bottom button can be customized to link it to any app you want and have it in this way with quick access.
Interestingly, the TicWatch Pro straps mix Italian leather on the outside with a kind of inner layer made of soft silicone with a ribbed design that helps adherence with the wrist, and provides sweat resistance. Personally I think it is a good idea, which combines comfort with elegance.
Finally, the back of the TicWatch Pro is also made of stainless steel. In it are located the sensor to measure the heart rate and the pins to charge the battery, which come into operation when the watch is placed in its charging base.
The water and dust resistance with IP68 certificate is one of the characteristics of the TicWatch Pro. However, it is not recommended to have it submerged for a long time in places such as a swimming pool.
Sound
In the sound section the TicWatch Pro does not fall short, it incorporates both a microphone, with which we can give orders to the Google Assistant, and a mini speaker at the bottom. This speaker, although it is not manufactured to offer great power, it does have its utility for those times when the ambient noise is not very high. We will be able to hear the Google Assistant when it responds to us and, in addition, if we have downloaded Google Music or Spotify, we will have the possibility to listen to music via streaming. In addition, we will have a multimedia player to handle the music we are listening to on our smartphone.
Connectivity
We can connect the TicWatch Pro mainly in two ways: the main and most common is through Bluetooth 4.2 to our Android or iOS smartphone. What's more, the first time we use it, we will need to download the Wear OS app from Google and link the watch to the smartphone using it; The other connection option that we will have is through 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n. In this way we can download new spheres, apps from the store or play streaming music.
Besides, the TicWatch Pro has NFC technology, whose main use will be to pay by contact if we have an associated credit card. Other sensors that it has are: luminosity sensor, gyroscope and accelerometer. It is a pity not to have another model with the possibility of inserting a SIM card to have a data connection independent of the phone for those who want it.
OS
The system uses, as we mentioned in the text above, Google's Wear OS operating system already seen in many other smartwatches. The main screen of the system is the sphere that we have chosen according to our tastes. From there and depending on which side we slide our finger, one window or another will appear. If we slide down, we will reach the settings screen from which to activate or deactivate vibration, sound, NFC or vary the brightness level, among other settings such as waking the screen by turning the wrist or touching it with your finger. If we slide to the sides, we can select another sphere, and if we slide up, we will encounter the last open app.
To open the app selector, once the clock is on, we must press the upper right power button again, the apps will appear in a list and we can move between them by scrolling vertically with our finger. To download more apps, we will have the Google Play store. There are not as many apps as we find on smartphones, but even so, if we will find enough and especially the most required.
We will have some extra options regarding fitness and the step counter if we download the official app of the Mobvoi company, even the TicWatch Pro will mention it. However, after downloading the Wear OS app, having to download a second app becomes tedious, and sometimes it becomes difficult to know which of the two apps to go to find certain information.
We have a wide variety of useful apps, from the calendar, alarms or contacts to others such as Telegram or the possibility of reading and replying to WhatsApp messages, but there are some that stand out for their usefulness such as Google Maps and those related to sports and fitness. Although the TicWatch Pro is not a sports watch, it has some functions to follow your activity, whether inside or outside the home. For running, it uses traditional accelerometers, but even if we use the bicycle, the watch will be able to track and measure your position using the GPS. If we do other types of workouts or go to the gym, the TicWatch Pro is also responsible for giving you different results of time and calories.
performance
In this section, it should be noted that the TicWatch Pro mounts the Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, the latest Soc model released for wareables and accompanied by 512 MB of RAM. With this power, we have been able to see how the performance and speed given by the clock are quite good and the navigation through the menus is fluid at all times. It is possible to download the odd mini game, and even in those cases, the performance is quite correct.
Where there may be a greater limitation is in the storage section, where we have only 4 GB of memory. A storage that may be enough to store some apps that we download and the notifications that we receive, but that may be insufficient if we want to store a large number of audios or songs.
We have been able to verify on multiple occasions that such is the heart rate sensor, and we have verified that its measurements are quite accurate, at the level of sensors incorporated in other smartwatches.
Battery
The battery capacity in the TicWatch Pro is 415 mAh. A capacity that promises 2 days of autonomy with enough use of the AMOLED screen, from 5 to 30 days with a mixed use of both screens and up to 30 days in essential mode, that is, only using the blank LCD screen and black.
In our tests, using a mixed use of both screens, the autonomy has been 2 and a half days. This means that with intensive use of the AMOLED screen, the autonomy is 1 day and little more, similar to other smartwatches.
Using the essential mode for two weeks, we were able to see how the remaining 30% of capacity still remained.
Charging the TicWatch Pro up to 100% battery using the included charging dock took about 2 hours. This dock is designed to fit perfectly with the watch, so it will be necessary to take it with us if we plan to travel somewhere for a few days.
TicWatch Pro conclusion and final words
A few years ago, the era of weareables became fashionable and more sophisticated devices appear every time. Perhaps the TicWatch Pro is not the first model of smartwatch to add the double screen to save consumption, but it is certainly one of the ones that has attracted the most attention by combining many virtues.
The double screen of course, lengthens the autonomy of the watch. Where others only go to one day long, the TicWatch Pro arrives calmly after 2 days without messing around much, however, it is true that it expected even a longer duration. For extreme cases, we will always have to activate the Essential Mode, quite limited and old but that does increase autonomy.
Ticwatch Pro Smart Watch Smart Watch Compatible with iOS and Android (Wear 0S) Google Assistant Layered Display Technology Changes Your Lifestyle From Here Black Color 202, 39 EURAnother section that takes the palm is its design, we liked practically everything about it, elegant but resistant at the same time, in addition to resisting contact with dust and water. The same is true, with its straps, a correct mix of elegance and ergonomics.
Finally, unifying Wear OS and the Snapdragon 2100 means that at no time do we see lack of fluidity or delay during use. Wear OS also opens up a wide range of possibilities as it is a widely used system today and it has a large number of apps in its store. Too bad, that the company, not content with that, decided to implement its own app. An app that confuses more than helps.
In conclusion, it is a perfect smartwatch to complement your smartphone, as long as you like these types of devices, they are necessary and you do not mind paying the € 250 it costs. A price that can be somewhat high but that gives us a device in which quality prevails.
