The IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) is an organization whose purpose is to approve the new Internet standards. Finally, after four years of development, they have already approved the new standard, which comes under the name TLS 1.3. This is the new version of this protocol whose purpose is to allow secure connections to be established through the Internet.

TLS 1.3 has been approved as a new Internet standard

Version 1.2 has been in force since 2008, so they have been slow to arrive with a new version. But, this development has not been without problems, since it took 28 drafts until TLS 1.3 has become a reality.

What's New TLS 1.3

Security seems to be the main weapon of this new protocol. Since it has been announced that it is going to remove some insecure algorithms like MD5 and SHA-224. In their place new and safer ones will come like ChaCha20, Poly1305, Ed25519, x25519 and x448. In addition, connections can be established more quickly and safely. It has also been commented that it will not have a back door, although at the time an attempt was made to include it.

TLS 1.3 promises to change many things. Although at the moment less than 1% of the servers are compatible with this new standard. So it is still long enough for it to become the most used and the most common on the market. Which will be progressing throughout this year.

At least we already know that the new protocol is a reality. Since the process has taken a long time. But it comes with improvements and very renovated. So you will have to wait if it works as well as it promises.
