Transcend world leader in the manufacture of memory and SSD drives launched in the third quarter of this year one of the best external SSD hard drives on the market, it is the Transcend ESD400.
Among its characteristics we find one of the best read / write rates and excellent durability. Don't miss our review!
We appreciate the trust and the transfer of the product for its analysis to the Transcend team:
Transcend ESD400 technical specifications
Transcend ESD400
Transcend makes an attractive, serious and very careful presentation. On the front we have a plastic window that allows us to see the hard drive and all the most important features. In its rear part you will find all the more detailed technical characteristics. Inside we find:
- Transcend ESD400 Hard Drive, USB Cable, Case, Manual and Quick Guide.
The Transcend ESD400 has very compact dimensions of 9.2 x 1 x 6.2 cm and a weight of 54 grams. The disk as you read is very light and is that the plastic casing is of quality and can withstand some typical falls from day to day, but it is not up to the Storejet 25H3.
The disc on all its sides is completely smooth, we only find the quick copy button and the data cable on its upper side.
I want to tell you about the auto-backup button that just by pressing it makes a backup and synchronizes your data with the Transcend Elite software. This is very useful for spot copies.
What capacities do we have available? We can find a wide range of sizes, including 128, 256, 512 GB and a maximum of 1TB with their different price variants. The transfer speed is up to 410MB / s read and 380MB / s write in the 1TB and 512GB version.

For testing we will use the native controller of the Z170 chipset on a high performance board: Asus Z170M PLUS. Our tests will be carried out with the synthetic Crystal Disk Mark benchmark and testing the transfer of 2GB in video format from a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO.
Final words and conclusion
The Transcend ESD400 is one of the best external hard drive solutions on the market. With a slim, elegant and quite light design it becomes a very interesting option for the street user.
In our performance tests we have seen excellent normal read and write rates, but we were expecting a performance boost. We understand that we will have this superior performance on the 512GB and 1TB drives.
Currently we can find it in Amazon Spain for a fairly good price in all its sizes. For example, we find the 256GB version for 127 euros, while the 512GB version for 230 euros.
