The official announcement of the third generation AMD Threadripper is imminent and in the last hours we could see a new leaked motherboard, in this case, the Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Xtreme.

It is not the first time that we have seen this motherboard. In fact, a couple of days ago we reported on a Gigabyte tweet where they showed this model a bit. The problem with that is that it had a text "99", which is confusing and made us question whether the rumors pointing to the TRX40 chipset were true or not.

The illustration in the box above clearly shows that the name of the chipset will be TRX40, and since that is the name of the chipset we've seen the most, chances are that's what it's going to be called. The socket is also named sTRX4.

According to rumors, AMD's TRX40 chipset will house Ryzen Threadripper 3000 chips, which should debut with at least 24 cores and up to 32 CPU cores with Hyper-Threading. The sTRX4 socket must have four memory channels with two DIMMs per channel and 64 PCI-Express 4.0 tracks. This is the next generation of AMD's consumer-oriented high-end HEDT products, and considering what we've seen from the 1st and 2nd generation, we have high hopes for this new generation in terms of performance.

In addition to sTRX4 sockets intended for consumers, GamersNexus also leaked that there would be an sWRX8 socket intended for workstations for heavier loads, as indicated by the W in the name. Similarly, the sWRX8 socket will have eight channels of DDR4 memory and each memory module will have access to its own channel along with 96 to 128 PCI-Express 4.0 channels.
