Trx80, wrx80 and lga1159 do not exist: these sockets will not come out
Table of contents:
After reading and hearing so many rumors, AMD and Intel's TRX80, WRX80, and LGA1159 sockets won't come to light. We tell you all the details.
Thanks to our AnandTech colleagues we have been able to know first hand that these sockets would be the complete invention of virtual media that do not contrast information. For those who were not aware, apparently some information was "leaked" about what would be the next sockets from AMD and Intel: the TRX80, WRX80 and LGA1159. However, such information would not be true.
CES Las Vegas as the protagonist place
Our colleagues at AnandTech decided to take advantage of the event to ask the main manufacturers and assemblers of motherboards about the existence of these sockets.
The truth is that Intel and AMD work together with their partners in the development of their products for 6 or 9 months before the products go on the market. In fact, there may be changes in direction just 18 months before the launch of the products. Therefore, if they really existed, these brands would be aware of it.
According to AnandTech, when they asked the main managers of each brand about the TRX80, WRX80 or LGA1159 sockets, they put on "poker faces". After explaining to them where the information came from, they said that they had no roadmap for these alleged sockets. None of them had ever heard those names.
As for the LGA1159 socket, several interesting information came out in the form of leaks. Apparently, it had to do with some samples of 6 Comet Lake chip cores that came in a LGA1150 package. There's a reason Intel did this because there is no difference between Coffee Lake Refresh and Comet Lake silicon.
In conclusion, it does not seem that we are going to see any socket named as TRX80, WRX80 or LGA1159, since they never existed and all the information that came out over the network was false. Today, none of them exist, which is not ruled out that they exist tomorrow.
So, we will not see those sockets for Threadripper, nor that platform for the new Intel desktop chips.
