Ubuntu 17.04: all the information that currently exists
As most of our readers will know, Ubuntu 17.04 will be the new version of the most popular Linux distribution and will arrive in approximately three months. It will be a new regular version with 9-month support that will serve to test new elements for the next LTS, Ubuntu 18.04, for which we will still have to wait a year and three months approximately.
Canonical continues with its commitment to convergence in which the fundamental pillars are Unity 8 and the Mir window manager. Ubuntu 17.04 will continue to have a premature version of Unity 8 and Mir although much more mature than what we have seen so far, with this it can be affirmed that Ubuntu 17.04 will be the first version that bets heavily on Unity 8, they want Unity 8 to work Perfect on touch devices and desktop computers. Regarding the kernel, the current builds are based on Linux 4.9, although the final version is expected to jump to Linux 4.10, which is already being tested by the development team.
Another major move in Ubuntu 17.04 will be replacing the traditional Swap partition with a swap file, a solution very similar to the one used by Windows. With the amounts of RAM memory that today's computers have, the Swap partition makes less and less sense and even less with the rise of SSD disks that do not feel too good or such intensive use.
Snap packages are another key piece in the development of Ubuntu, Canonical wants the next Ubuntu 18.04 to be based entirely on Snap packages, so it is expected that more packages of this nature will be available every time and that its management system.
