The new BIOSes have been developed by transplanting the latest Intel microcode updates, which are compatible even with the Nehalem microarchitecture, which brought the first-generation Core processors to life. The goal of these BIOSes is to protect users from Meltdown and Specter vulnerabilities, which affect all recent Intel processors.
