Techpowerup poll confirms Ryzen effect on processor market

At the end of May last year, TechPowerUp launched a survey on the processors used by users. After more than 16, 000 responses, you can get a fairly realistic view of the situation and the Ryzen effect is confirmed.

Haswell, Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge are the most used processors, something that shows the little evolution that processors have had over the last seven years, which means that chips released in 2011 are still perfectly valid in the middle of 2018. Users of these processors still do not see compelling reasons to make the leap to newer processors.

2017 was the year of Ryzen's arrival on the market, the new AMD processors that, finally, marked a change in trend in the evolution of this component. AMD Ryzen processors have been rated higher by users than the Intel Kaby lake and Coffee Lake, confirming the idea that the introduction of Ryzen interrupted Intel's near monopoly, boosted top counts, and brought innovation back to the segment.

Currently, the first generation AMD Ryzen processors represent 14.9% of all users who voted in the poll, Coffee Lake stands at 11%. The ranking is led by Haswell, with 19.2% and Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge with 17.5%. These data demonstrate that Ryzen is more popular with users than Coffee Lake, and that they are the most widely used processors of the current generation.

Of course, there are limitations to our survey, as the data comes from a user survey among Techpowerup readers, which are comprised of video game players and enthusiasts, so the data is not in line with the general market that includes other use cases.
