Unity 8 is already in the official repositories of ubuntu 16.10
Table of contents:
Unity 8 and the Mir window manager are the central axis of the convergence that Canonical so much pursues and that is already several years behind schedule, since it should have arrived with Ubuntu 14.04 and more than two years later it is still in development. Finally both Unity 8 and Mir are closer and have already been included in the official Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak repositories.
Unity 8 is one step closer to its final version
A little more than a day ago, Canonical has decided to take a step forward with the inclusion of all the packages necessary to run the Unity 8 graphical environment to the latest builds of Ubuntu 16.10, with which it will no longer be necessary to have to install packages manually, so that the process to test Unity 8 and Mir will be much easier. Both are still in the development phase so they will not come as a default option in Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak, but the user must select them from the login screen.
Unity 8 is still too green to be used in daily work computers, so we will have to be careful and take precautions if we do not want to be disappointed. We also highlight that some computers have errors that cause the screen to go black or return the user to the login screen shortly after logging in.
The final version of Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak will arrive in about a week, so it is highly unlikely that most of the Unity 8 and Mir bugs will be fixed ahead of their arrival.
We leave you a gallery so you can see what Unity 8 looks like:
