SSD drives are selling better than ever according to the latest data provided by TrendFocus , sales in the second quarter of this year increased more than 40% from the same period last year.

Lower prices and higher capacity are the reasons

The sales data leaves no room for doubt, SSD drives are quickly becoming popular thanks to the benefits it brings in terms of read and write speeds compared to mechanical drives and also because of their increasingly affordable prices.. Earlier this year, the gigabyte of SSD was costing about 27 cents, in the second half it is already costing about 21 cents on average and the trend is to continue lowering costs even further.

If we go to the concrete figures, in the second quarter of this year 33.7 million SSD units were sold, an increase of 41.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. The average capacity of the SSD disks sold reaches 368GB in this period, so it is not only reducing costs but also increasing the storage capacity with this type of memory, where it is already possible to see 2TB disks.

Samsung continues to lead SSD disk sales

Finally, the news that is not new, is that Samsung continues to be the leader in sales of this type of units with a 40.8% market share, followed by SanDisk with 13.6%, Lite-On with 9.7% and also very close to Kingston.
