The ViewSonic X10-4K is a monster with a short throw lens at 4K native resolution that offers spectacular image quality. Unboxing

Well, we started by Unboxing this marvel of entertainment ViewSonic X10-4K. And we will find it in a large rigid cardboard box that presents the projector on its main face through a color photograph on an orange and white background. On the other faces, the truth is that we do not have too much information on the specifications of the projector, so the best way to know what they are, will be to see our review or look at their website.

The good thing about this box is that it has a handle for transportation, which in a team of around 4 Kg is appreciated. The opening is made on the upper side, and inside we are going to find two apartments. The first of them is a large thick polythene foam mold that contains a box with accessories next to the hand and the USB Wi-Fi card. While underneath all this we have the projector wrapped in a polythene bag between these molds.

Let's see now what accessories the bundle contains (at least the one that has not reached us):

We have everything you need to carry out the full range of connections that this projector supports, except an Ethernet cable that would have come in handy as well. And putting us to ask, it would have been very useful to include a suitcase for transport.

Exterior design

This ViewSonic X10-4K is quite a bulky team, as it usually happens in all high power and resolution projectors. And it is practically a computer as we will see later in its specifications, since the content that is sent to it is not only limited to a projector.

ViewSonic has wanted to create a product with a fairly Premium appearance through a box, yes, built in plastic and painted in a rather peculiar color, between gray and gold that feels great. The measurements of this projector without the lower leg unfolded are 261 mm wide, 271 mm deep and 166 mm high. Precisely because of its height, it makes a very visible team visually speaking. The weight of the equipment is 4.1 Kg.

Starting from the front face of the ViewSonic X10-4K, we see that the projection lamp has been placed just in the central area and relatively close to the top area, a rather striking location. The entire area is embellished with a plastic casing except for the lamp area, which has a high-quality anti-scratch glass plate. In addition, we see some hallmarks of the team, such as the logo, the technology it uses and its resolution.

To the right of the lens, we find sensors to be able to position the projector image correctly automatically, we are talking about a sensor for keystone correction and a camera for autofocus. The lower part in the form of a grid, only serves to expel air to the outside.

The upper face does not have much to tell, as it is just a smooth plastic casing with the brand name printed on the center and the harman / kardon badge referring to the sound system. At least this shell is monoblock, and continues to the sides in a single plastic mold.

In the right side area, and very close to the outer edge, we have a wheel to carry out a basic control of the equipment. We say basic because the important functions are in the remote control. With this wheel we can increase and decrease the volume or turn the equipment on and off thanks to its central button. Two LEDs indicate if the equipment is on or if bluetooth is activated.

We now go to the side areas of the ViewSonic X10-4K, where two large grilles are located that act as air suction for the two fans that are installed, one on each side. This cooling system is relatively noisy, from 26 dB at its lowest RPM, to 30 dB at its highest, but it is not annoying with a medium-high sound

But also in the area are the two speakers that this projector equips. Two 8W speakers with Harman / Kardon sound technology. Due to the great measurements of the equipment, the sound box of each driver is quite good, giving us an excellent bass level and high sound power even for large rooms. Of the best we have tried so far we must say.

With the help of the previous images, we can see that the ViewSonic X10-4K has a handle on the back that unfolds to be able to transport the equipment more easily. Although we can only say that you should be careful with shocks, since leaving the lamp upside down could damage it during transport. To further enhance the exterior appearance, the manufacturer has used a magnetic leather cover to cover the entire rear area where the connection ports are located.

ViewSonic X10-4K allows its installation both on tables or bases on the floor or on ceiling supports, as long as it is horizontal.

Before looking at the connections, we have to see a little better the lower part, where we have a total of four rubber feet to place it in a completely horizontal or 100% offset position. But we also see that a support has been installed in the front area that allows two positions to establish an inclination of 115% or 130% offset of the equipment, something very necessary, for example, when we put it on a table.

Similarly, the possibility of installing it has been implemented using universal ceiling mounts with a 3-bolt base. Notice that in this case we lose the possibility of installing it on tripods, we must logically to the extensive dimensions of the apparatus.

Well, you see, we have a piece of rear panel full of ports with elements as interesting as double USB connectivity to play content directly from flash drives or the USB Type-C connector to connect Smartphone and likewise, play the content. With certain 3.0 flash drives, we may need to connect them to USB 2.0 due to compatibility issues, but it is not important.

Regarding the USB slot for the Wi-Fi card, we will use this function to connect, for example, Smartphone directly to the projector and send our screen wirelessly. The fluidity will depend in part on the power of the mobile and the distance at which we are. I must say that this USB Wi-Fi card gets really hot.

The equipment also has the function of appearing as a networked resource, since it has its own storage, and we can store multimedia content on it for later playback. Similarly, we also have Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity to pair devices with the equipment.

And finally, the ViewSonic X10-4K is compatible with the voice control of Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant through the portable speaker of both brands.

Next, we are going to detail the benefits that this ViewSonic X10-4K offers us, because they are not few. And already to open mouth, we have a hardware consisting of a 4-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. It is in this way that we can have our own multimedia station not only to project content, but to store and play it.

Let's first look at the performance of the lamp, which is presented with a RGBB LED light source (Red, Green and double Blue source) of no less than 1.07 billion colors to improve the range and color space. the projector. The manufacturer ensures that the equipment with its Cinema Super Color + technology is capable of reaching up to 125% of the Rec.709 color space, making it ideal for watching movies in Blue Ray quality. The estimated life of this lamp is 30, 000 hours as it is LED technology, and it is capable of delivering a native UHD 4K resolution (3840x2160p) at a vertical sync frequency of up to 85 Hz. We don't have Pixel Shifting for rescaling the image to 4K, it's just the native and true resolution of the protector, thanks to 8.4 million projected pixels.

NOTE: The image quality is perfect with very little light in the room. Because of this, the photos taken are of a considerably lower quality than the image displayed by the projector.

As for the rest of the features that this lamp offers, we have a maximum brightness of 1, 000 ANSI lumens, or 2, 400 LED lumens, which in this case will not allow us to see the content very well when we are in bright environments, so it is not A recommended equipment for presentations with the light on. It offers us a dynamic contrast of 3, 000, 000: 1 with a focal aperture lens F = 1.8 of = 8.5 mm. Likewise, it supports playback in HDR and 3D content. You already know that the sound system is made up of two high-quality, high-volume Harman / Kardon 8W speakers.

ViewSonic X10-4K is capable of giving us an image size between 30 and 200 inches thanks to a 0.8 shooting ratio of between 0.5 and 3.5 meters, with aspect ratios of 16:10, 16: 9 and 4: 3 to be chosen by the user or the original video source. We have the ability to automatically or manually adjust focus and keystone adjustment. In this sense, we must recommend making these modifications manually, since the autofocus, for example, does not work too well (or it will be my view that fails), at least in my case I have needed to perform the manual adjustment to see the content clearly.

And finally, we can talk about the electrical consumption of the projector, because the manufacturer ensures a normal consumption of about 140W and 0.5 in Standby. With our wattmeter, and at a brightness of 98%, we have obtained a measurement of 102W of power in operation and 1.1W in Standby, which is not bad.

Connectivity

Let's make a brief summary of the connectivity that is presented to us in this ViewSonic X10-4K, speaking more extensively of the shared resources from a Smartphone.

We feel the quality of these images, we had a problem with the camera.

The main thing will be to go to the network configuration section and connect directly to our Wi-Fi network. In this way, the project will be visible by other devices such as Android terminals and desktop PCs.

To share the screen of our terminal with the projector, what we need to do is install Google Home on the Smartphone, or the respective application if we have an iOS terminal, which is also compatible. We will open the application and click on the account options, in whose list the option of " Send screen / audio " will appear. Then we will choose the projector and automatically the content will appear synchronized with the terminal.

In the previous screenshot we see all the multimedia sources that we can select from the projector. From typical HDMI to USB-C or external storage devices. We have used a Sandisk Extreme 3.0 drive that has worked perfectly on both USBs. From the file management menu we can navigate through the folders and files through the remote control in a simple and fast way.

OSD control, image and remote control

ViewSonic X10-4K has a complete management firmware that will be easily manageable using the included remote control. The remote control consists of a panel of 6 buttons in the upper area with which we can turn the equipment on and off, select a video source, focus the image, activate bluetooth, select the sound mode and open the configuration panel.

Right in the central part we have a fairly large wheel in the form of a potentiometer that will serve as a menu selection wheel, and to increase or decrease the level of the selected option, very useful and that gives us a lot of room for maneuver in the menus. Just below the rest of the buttons, to go to the main menu, go back and select the sound volume or turn it off.

The remote control will light up when we are using it to better see each key. It has two AAA batteries that are already included.

Located in the main menu of the projector, we have a total of 6 sections among which are the network configuration, configuration options, firmware update and information on date, programming and information about the equipment. We are most interested in network options and configuration options.

In the basic configuration we have everything necessary for image adjustment, the type of projection we are doing and the language. While in the advanced configuration we will have the rest of important aspects, such as the power options, energy management, sound, etc.

The OSD menu of the ViewSonic X10-4K will be obtained directly by pressing the cogwheel button on the remote control while we are playing content. Due to the low quality of the photographs, we have preferred not to take photos in each image mode, but we have a few modes such as, game, film, bright and user among others. In fact, we can modify the contrast, brightness and especially the color temperature to adjust the image to our preferences. If we go to the advanced options, we will have more options available, such as the aspect ratio, or the configuration of the video input that we are using, with the possibility of activating HDR and the source is compatible with it.

The image quality is simply delightful, playing UHD content on a large diagonal screen almost like being in the cinema. With a room dark enough, the brightness and resolution will be perfect, and we can see that if we get close to the projected screen, as we saw before in a photo about the eye in detail of Smaug, a pity that the photos make quality is lost.

Similarly, the ability to projector games in a large diagonal if simply exquisite, in this 4K resolution with HDR activated, we can enjoy the great graphic quality of any IP, such as Far Cry or whatever we want. The image refresh rate via HDMI is 60 Hz, slightly less than what the projector supports, but sufficient for most graphics cards at these higher resolutions. The lamp has not generated flickers or the typical ghosting and blur that some computers or monitors usually produce, so the input lag is decent enough to play not competitively, of course.

Final words and conclusion about ViewSonic X10-4K

ViewSonic X10-4K is, in our view, one of the best native UHD 4K resolution SMART LED projectors on the market. A kit that offers the best of the durability of LED lamps with short throw optics to mount our home theater with screens up to 200 inches in sharp and detailed form.

It supports HDR, 3D at Full HD resolution, although at a brightness of about 1000 ANSI lumens, which may be a bit short for example to display content in bright rooms. Perhaps it is the only thing we see that can be improved, that liveliness in the images is somewhat low. But another strong point is the great quality in color rendering, with a 10-bit RGBB palette and 125% REC-709 it is the best we can see.

As for the design, well more or less what we could expect, a fairly large equipment of 4 Kg, although with a handle to transport it easily, not securely, since we would have preferred that a suitcase be included to carry it more safely. The finishes are of very good quality and the positioning allows three heights. Of course, we recommend adjusting the trapezoidal image manually and especially the focus, since the camera has a little trouble.

Connectivity is also one of its strengths, as it is capable of streaming content directly from the computer with 16GB of internal storage space and a 4-core processor. Also content from USB flash drives, USB-C, shared screen on Android and iOS Smartphone and, via bluetooth or Wi-Fi 5 GHz.

The sound system is spectacular, with two large diameter 8W Harman / Kardon speakers, offering a great level of bass without the need for a subwoofer and high volume, even for large rooms. Noise from your fan system is not too much of a problem either as 30 dB is a fairly normal figure.

To finish, this ViewSonic X10-4K we will have it available for a recommended retail price of 1, 399 euros according to the store, but considering that it is LED technology, and everything it is able to offer us, it is a fairly adjusted price.
