The arrival of virtual reality tries to turn the world of entertainment upside down as we knew it until now and not only for video games, but also for daily use on a computer. With this idea, Steam is going to launch Virtual Desktop on the day of the date.

Virtual Desktop is an application that will be available soon on the Steam platform and that allows us to use the computer in a virtual environment thanks to VR glasses such as HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. Browsing the Internet or watching movies on a giant screen is possible with Virtual Desktop, even playing the video games from our collection on Steam, with the possibility of configuring the screen size and the viewing distance. Virtual Desktop not only supports the configuration of multiple monitors but also supports voice commands to run any game in our library.

As can be seen in the screenshots that accompany this article, the use of the computer can be done in virtual environments with 360-degree panoramic images selectable to our liking or in a virtual room if we want to comfortably enjoy a movie or television series on a virtual giant screen.

Watching movies and series on a giant screen is possible with Virtual Desktop

The great advantage of Virtual Desktop is that it can replace the use of our monitor and use the computer on a large screen, although it remains to be seen how comfortable it can be during long sessions of use.

The minimum requirements to use Virtual Desktop:

An Intel i5 or equivalent processor, 4GB of RAM and a GTX 640 graphics card or an AMD 7000 series or RX 200 equivalent, although this is only for the minimum configuration, as recommended by Steam suggests a GTX 760 graphics card onwards.

Virtual Desktop will launch in the next few hours at a price that will be known at the time it is available in the Steam store .
