The purchase of SanDisk by Western Digital hinted that the latter was very interested in entering fully into the SSD market for the domestic sector, something that has finally been confirmed with the announcement of its first devices of this type, the WD Blue and Green.

WD Blue and Green: features, availability and price

The WD Blue SSDs are based on the SanDisk X400 SATA with some firmware-level modifications and minimal hardware changes to enhance its features. They come in a 2.5 ″ and M.2 format with a Marvell 88SS1074 controller and Toshiba 15nm NAND TLC memory technology to offer some very interesting features at fairly tight prices. With these characteristics, the WD Blue come in capacities of 250GB, 500GB and 1TB with maximum sequential read and write rates of 545 MB / s and 525 MB / s respectively. The 250 GB model comes at an approximate price of 80 euros while the 1 TB model reaches 300 euros. Regarding its durability we have a total of 100 TB, 200 TB and 400 TB respectively.

We recommend reading our guide to the best SSDs on the market.

As for the WD Green we have cheaper SSDs that are based on a Silicon Motion controller with less DRAM and the same NAND TLC memory at 15 nm from SanDisk. They also arrive in 2.5 ″ and M.2 formats, although this time with capacities of 120 GB and 240 GB reaching a performance of sequential read and write of 540 MB / s and 405 MB / s respectively. Its durability reaches 80TB written on the 240GB model. Prices have not been announced.
