WhatsApp finally says goodbye to China
Table of contents:
In recent months we have repeatedly commented on the increase in censorship in China. As a result of these policies, many applications and websites are having problems. One of the most affected so far has been WhatsApp. In summer its use in the country was already blocked. Now the app is totally blocked in China.
WhatsApp finally says goodbye to China
The government of the Asian country has been putting laws in place for a while that allows them to control everything that happens on the Internet. And no application escapes that control. The same has recently happened with WeChat, which shares all of its data with the government.
WhatsApp blocked in China
On this occasion, according to some experts, the reason for the blockade is not expressly censorship. China would have blocked the NoiseSocket protocol that WhatsApp uses. This protocol is used to send text messages. Also for HTTP / HLS which you use for photos and videos. It seems that it is not possible to send in the application in China either.
It reminds many of the same thing that happened to Facebook in 2009. Year in which the social network was blocked throughout the country. It is speculated that WhatsApp encryption is something that the country's leaders do not like. And that this could have prompted the blocking of the popular instant messaging app in China.
So far, neither the company nor the government have made statements. But the app doesn't work. We will see if more is known about this fact in the coming days. Although, it seems that the Chinese government's maneuvers to control everything that happens on the Internet continue to advance at a steady pace.
