During the month of May, the world panicked due to the attack of a ransomware called WannaCry that affected more than 230, 000 computers in some 150 countries. This ransomware affected Windows computers and what it did was encrypt user data and then request a ransom for them using Bitcoin.

Microsoft claims that ransomware will not affect Windows 10

Microsoft seems to be determined to end this type of attack and is promoting its new Windows 10 S operating system that would be immune to the much-mentioned and feared ransomware.

Windows 10 S is an operating system created specifically for the student sector and would come in the next laptops, like the Surface Laptop. The advantage that this system offers compared to the traditional Windows 10 that we use every day is that it only allows you to run UWP (Universal Windows Platform) applications, applications that are Win32 are not supported on this system. This means that only applications that are in the Windows Store can be installed, offering maximum security and control by the operating system.

Windows 10 S will be part of Surface Laptop

This is the reason why a ransomware like the one that affected hundreds of thousands of computers last May, could never occur in Windows 10 S. Although this does not assure us that some malicious code will not be filtered in the future, surely the risk will be much less than in traditional Windows 10 Pro.

Meanwhile, Surface Laptop , which will come with this system installed, is coming to Spain on June 15 from 1, 149 euros. In the event that we are not too interested in the security of our laptop, we can update Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro for free until December.
